Physicists have nothing better to do than argue with a bunch of pretentious English majors, right?

Guess you didn't pay attention in Grade 9, bub.

EDIT: Also I'm not dedicating any more time towards arguing for this. If you want to believe it's a color despite physicists claiming otherwise, go ahead. I'm sure you're super qualified for it. But don't be annoyingly dumb, saying others are wrong, citing a sentence some English major neckbeards wrote.

The real issue here is who really cares? What does this have to do with this discussion of wanting a black iOS 7 GUI theme option? 99.9% believe black is a color option and the remaining 0.1% look down their nose at them. Does anyone really care?

I think the black background looks amazing, when I switch to invert colors. The menus and texting looks awesome. Just wish they offered this as a option without messing with the images. I would leave it this way all the time if the images looked closer to normal.

I must say, I am not a fan of the iOS 7 UI design, but the black is pretty impressive, I could definitely overlook the other issues I have with it. One of the biggest problems I have with it is the overuse of white, its too... blah

Complaining about this in a forum is not going to change things. If enough people make the same suggestions through the developers' feedback directly to Apple, we might actually see this by GM.

Seriously? This thread has degenerated to a back-and-forth about whether or not black is a color? Come on, clearly this isn't what the thread is about, and taking it down that path does it injustice.

Reminds me of a saying: knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

At times the white is fine then at other times it's not, the photos app has some issues.

Especially if you have some screenshots from the messages app in there, they kind of just blend in with everything else.

I too wish for a black theme. I have the brightness turned almost all the way down on iOS 7 since beta 1. It's just to much of an eyestrain for me. I'm kind of light sensitive.

Apple should provide a setting for two themes (one white and one dark). User can pick which one they prefer. User may even prefer to switch themes depending on context (day/night--indoors/outdoors--theater/office).

My prominent criticism of Apple products is their lack of customizability. But offering two themes would be something that I would commend. Users gain some control over their interface to the device and can select the mode they're most comfortable with, accommodating individual user preferences like eye-health, environmental context, aesthetic preference, etc.

There is something to be said about a universal experience though - one that you don't have to learn over and over again. Yes, sometimes even a color change can be disorienting to the person not used to it. Facebook is not customizable at all; yet MySpace was. Yet one is a way larger following and user base than the other.

I consider myself to have pretty decent eyesight overall.

Despite this, if I go into the Accessibility menu and flip the Invert Colours switch back and forth a few times, I can physically feel my eyes relaxing with the black background.

Obviously it's not a practical choice to keep it inverted given that also changes photos etc, but it does illustrate the point - try it.

There has to be a dark themed option offered by Apple. I'm a little surprised it didn't make Beta 4, as surely there are more than a few employees at Cupertino who feel the same way.

They couldn't give it a black background -- if they did it would be called Windows 8 :D

Exactly. Why bother debating about a colour scheme of something that isn't a colour?

Black is not a colour.

Why not have a global day/night scheme. Individual reading apps would no longer have to provide a toggle. Nothing is more harsh than going from night mode Pocket to all white email in iOS 7.

The white looks a million times better than black. I hate the mock up more than I hate the chance of getting the HIV from a toilet seat. The only people that ill black, wear trench coats in the summer.

The white is too bright on my eyes, pretty much most of the time I use it, and I'm still not fully used to it.

A darker theme, given that I don't have a white iPhone, would be better.

I hope someone is paying you to post here.

Just giving an opinion. Accept it and move on.

Its like lasik eye surgery.

Opinion? In every thread you berate people for not liking the tiniest details in iOS7, and make ridiculous statements defending the hideous and hard to use ui of iOS 7.

Let's look at what you wrote

Really? You don't think that's going too far? The majority seem to agree that a black theme looks better and would be less strain on the eyes. And that it should at least be an option over the sterile hospital white we have now.

I didn't berate anyone until I was accused of being paid. If a majority wanted black then it would be black.
