Hi there, just a question for those on the original iPad Mini running iOS 8.2: how has your experience been on this latest firmware?

Apparently my father won an iPad mini 1 from a raffle, and so I've been setting it up (ie playing) for him. What I've realised though is that this mini came preloaded with iOS 8.1, and it is slow as hell.

As I'm typing this, the keyboard input is crazy laggy.

Will upgrading to iOS 8.2 make it slightly better? Or will it not make much of a difference?

If it's already not doing well, doesn't seem like there's much of a downside to upgrading. Based on quite a few different existing 8.2 threads it's certainly no worse and generally seen as being better for most across pretty much all of the devices.

Thanks mate. Upgraded as soon as I saw your response, slightly faster but not by much. Guess :apple: wants to abandon all A5 devices ASAP!

As far as responsiveness goes you might get some improvement from some accessibility settings, like reducing animations and/or disabling transparency.

8.3 and hopefully 9.0 will be where the improvements hopefully are.

The iPad Mini 1 will get more support, its still for sale.

You should also turn off background app refresh and any location services not needed. That tends to speed things up.

im running 8.2 on my original ipad mini without issues. only hiccups i have are with laggy 3rd party keyboards but thats expected.

Always upgrade if you can.

Thanks for the tips guys, closed all those settings and the iPad sped up noticeably! Fingers crossed for a stable 8.3 or 9.0...
