That's not new to iOS8 though... I have that on my 5s with iOS7 as well. Just sayin ;)

I have never once received that 48-hour message on iOS 7. I go for weeks without restarting my phone. And the only time I have to re-enter my passcode before using Touch ID is after a restart.

This seems new to me...

Every single application installed on the iPhone now has its own menu from Settings and you can tell iOS whether or not it is allowed to use cellular data. Could be helpful for people that are terrified of going over their data limits as a result of applications performing services in the background

This isn't new. This was introduced in iOS 7. They just put all the apps in the main settings. (bad choice imo, they should all be placed in a subfolder called App Settings or something)

Desktop Safari site option is REALLY iffy. I can't get the option to pop up unless I have Favorites set as "Bookmark Menu" in the Settings - > Safari, and even then it's not always there in Safari anyway...

Ditto.

I can now reconsider iPhone.

But it's also a sad day. This and the ability to say "Hey, Siri" (like "OK Google") really does show that Apple's innovative days are over, and they too are now resorting to just copying. These are features Android has had for years.

Seriously, how is allowing third party keyboards copying? It's not like google themselves are creating the innovative keyboard ideas. Was the Google Play store "copying" the App Store? Both allow users to install third party apps.

And please, Apple all but created the modern smartphone design and mobile OS UI. They can borrow an idea here or there from the other companies that benefited massively from Apple's original iPhone innovations.

I must say. Two larger sized iPhones at once, third party widgets, third party keyboards, those are probably all things Steve wouldn't have done. But they are crucial for Apple to get back some of the Android userbase it's lost and people who would never use an iPhone because of those shortcomings. Suddenly iPhone is much more intriguing.

The thing is though, third party widgets and keyboards don't take away from the iOS/Apple polish. They won't make it a convoluted system like some would say a customized android OS is.

I doubt 80 percent of the people will even use them, but for the 20 who will it's huge, it's great for it to be an option for them.

You've misunderstood me. What I meant was, has the text been modified so it fits within the button outline?

They meant the disabling of Background App Refresh is now a Toggle Switch that does not lead to a pop-over button confirmation like this. So yes they fixed the text...by eliminating the button entirely.

I don't like the new vertical stack of apps instead of the horizontal in the app store when you search for an app... It is not intuitive at all...

Can I AirPlay to multiple destinations?

I'm about to drop $3k on a Sonos system for my house. If Apple adds the ability to AirPlay to multiple destinations in iOS 8, it would save me a LOT of money.

Settings > General > accessibility > speech > voices

New feature, swipe with 2 fingers from the top of the screen and a voice will read you what is on the screen. The high quality voice and "Alex" are pretty good.

Can you not do that with a Mac and the Remote App? Save the thousands. ;)

If you slide down on the new QucickType suggestion bar, you can hide it and receive the regular old keyboard which is useful when you type in a foreign language. The bar remains on the screen as a smaller dark grey bar (marked by red arrow) and when you swipe up on it, it reveals the suggestion bar again and re-enables Quicktype. iOS 8 will finally, FINALLY bring an option to display the calendar week to the iOS calendar. I've been waiting for this a long, long time. Thanks, Apple! (source: http://www.schimanke.com/archives/5672-Endlich-iOS-8-bringt-Anzeige-von-Kalenderwochen-mit.html)

Get YOUR facts straight. He asked WHY you could only use it plugged in. I responded its a battery killer and seems aimed towards CarPlay. But thanks for playing.
Get your facts right. "Hey Siri" only works when the device is connected to a power source. At worst, the phone might charge a little slower.

Do you guys think that the UI white theme is a lil more transparent in iOS8? Just seems so. Ever so slightly.

Maybe copying was the wrong word - perhaps 'conceding' is more apporpriate.

Yesterday during the keynote, on the screen during the enterprise portion, there was something written about password locking individual apps. Has anyone seen this, or figured it out yet? This would be pretty great.

This is a great question. This would be great if it worked with apple's own apps and not only 3rd party.

While I'm here, does this format work well? Should I do something different? (I've got some ideas for a separate web-based "tracker" for this too at some point). And is it useful to have the post number and link where each item was referenced first?

Siri Languages

Hello to everyone! Can someone please give us the list of the additional new spoken languages of Siri? Thanks!

If you go into a Messages thread, then tap "Details" at the top and scroll down you're presented with "Attachments" from that Message thread. This appears to show all of the pics/videos/contacts ever received in that thread in a nice stacked kind of display. Super slick.

(My phone is still restoring photos, but I assume they'll be here)

I wish it would also show all links that were sent in that thread.

Works well for me. Perhaps a reference picture if one is provided as well. I'd be interested in a tracker for all this as well. Keep up the good work!

OK I am confused now but was "Manual Exposure" control part of the Camera app before ?!?

If I tap to focus, I get a small brightness star next to the focus box which I can slide up and down to control exposure

Which iPhone and iOS is that, i have 5 and iOS7 any body know if that exposure slider should be there? i can get AE/AF lock by holding the focusing box but that all.

The exposure is here on my i5 running iOS 8, I'd assume it will work on all devices.
