On a similar note, why can't the USA metricate, instead of continuing to use outdated Imperial measuring units?

About that, interesting to note the U.S. had intended to metricate sometime in the mid-20th century. There are still lingering highway/thruway signs in kilometers. I don't know why this was never pushed through, having been raised in London and pretty much a global guy, it's an oddity.

President Gerald Ford encouraged adaptation of the metric system, but was promptly abandoned by the Carter administration.

Too bad really,.. I much prefer metric system.

I have the DP of iOS8 on my old iPad2 and that wallpaper is just plain creepy. It really makes me feel like I'm drowning! I don't get the point of it. Maybe the wallpaper for the final version will be splashing out of the water like a dolphin. That would be better.
Did iOS 8 remove the ability to change wallpapers?

:)

iOS 8 Sarcastic info

Yeah I could've, but it would have defeated the purpose of a sarcastic response. :)

Or you could've reworded something like:

It's too bad Apple doesn't have a website ( https://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/ ) or anything to list and describe the major features like Family Sharing, iCloud Drive, widgets in Notification Center, third-party keyboards, Continuity, etc. It also sucks that Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_8) doesn't have any cited info on the upcoming release. Apple doesn't tell us anything about new OSs. . . oh wait!

I think this is more vivid enough to satisfy our confused fellow human.
P.S. So bored :(

I really hope so. iOS 8 has been really bad (I don't have past experience with earlier betas) but from my experience in early testing/adoption.. so far it's been more of an Alpha. The amount of crashes, bugs, broken functionality tells me they are not doing end-2-end testing. everything is being tested stand-alone.

Phone app doesn't work most of the time. Music doesn't work, screen lock doesn't work, quicktype keyboard is so riddled with bugs I'm better off with the old iOS7 keyboard. and the list goes on... I've sent 20+ critical show-stopper bug reports in my spare time, but that's not a fraction of what I experienced.

They will need to really step up effort between now and September if they don't want to get a black eye.

Above aside - really nice additions to the OS, I'm happy with the features so if they can get these couple hundred critical bugs worked out it's going to be a great improvement over iOS 7.

Remember how when ios 7 launched it was full of bugs. I don't think 7.0 lasted very long. The GM was still a beta version. Will be the same. Won't feel like like polished software until 8.1.

To give the US it's due the UK still has quite a weird mix of metric and imperial....

we've had metric currency since 1971 and EU law now dictates groceries are sold in grams / kilograms but

  • Petrol is sold in litres but fuel economy is quoted in miles per gallon
  • We still measure speed in miles per hour and road distances in miles and yards
  • Beer is still sold in pints
  • When it's hot in summer we say it's 90 degrees (Fahrenheit) but when it's cold in winter we say it's -6 (Celcius)
  • Car tyre sizes have the wheel diameter in inches but the tyre width in mm all in the same description!
I'm sure there are other examples but these are the ones that spring to mind.

This coming from the same site who said Beta 3 would be released on the 8th, and apple seeded it the 7th, probably to mock BDR.

Do a simple google search for iOS 8 Beta 4, and everyone else is saying the 28th, which would be a 3 week interval. Im hoping that its the 28th so that BDR would be a less credible source for MacRumors.

So lets say that Beta 4 should be released between now and August 1

So far...

I've had the odd freeze, siri voice for voice text entry on safari doesn't work, and maybe the odd crash on beta 3, but I can make notes, work with photos, Numbers, and check my Exchange emails... generally fine on an iPod. The odd reboot has been required, but expected at this stage.

Yosemite is another matter. Mail won't work well with Exchange, they've made fixes to allow Preview to view RAW image files, but Aperture 3.5.1 on the OS won't work. I really like the look and feel... but not at all ready for a public beta.

I'm fine with "Fall," but I wish we would go to the metric system! Remembering how many of these makes one of those is ridiculous when you could just say .001, .01, .1, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, etc. and apply it across meters, liters, grams, or anything else.

12 inches = 1 foot. 3 feet = 1 yard. 5,280 feet = 1 mile. #

THIS

When I was in school, all we learned was the Metric system and the only American measurements that I really know are how many inches in a foot, and feet in a yard. Never learned about gallons or ounces or other measurements. Everyone was saying that the US would be on the metric system soon but it never happened.

see i take this as a compliment to the US, we can remember all the conversions, we don't have to have a dumbed down system.

Ah, thank God. My iPhone 4s worked well until beta 2, but with beta 3 notifications fail to show up after a while. When I do a restart, they work again, but after at least an half hour or so I only get the app icon badge instead of the notification banners. Really annoying. :p

Overall I'm happy with the performance. I only sometimes got some crashes, but for a beta it feels very stable to me.

According to BGR - oh dear. His predictions are about as good as British weather forecast system...

These release dates are pretty regular. You really need to refer to BGR?!?
BGR is always wrong so I am betting it will be tuesday the 22nd or the week after haha.

So very true, due to the fact betas come in 2-3 week intervals a monkey could have predicted that :p

Is BGR ever right about this stuff?

Bet you all feel silly right about now, seeing as his prediction was correct! :p
