On Beta 5 my iPhone was always listed on my iPad mini retina above the Wi-Fi spots now on the golden master it just shows up as a Wi-Fi and does not stay permanently affixed and now I have to turn on my iPhone and go into personal hotspot in order for the iPad to see it just like previous to iOS 8 if they break it?

I can't get it to work either

Not working for me, either.

At least, on my iPad Air. My old iPad mini cán succesfully connect to my iPhone with instant Hotspot.

All devices running iOS8.0 GM.

The thing i hate the most is, that being on the same wifi network is needed for it to work. I mean seriously? The fact that im on wifi means there is very little chance i need a connection to the internet from my phone.

Very stupid.

Wait what?!?!

You need to have the devices connected to a wireless network?

I thought you just needed wireless and Bluetooth switched on for it to work?

If that really is the case it's a pointless feature!

No, you don't have to be on the same WiFi network. For as far as I know, just having both devices logged in with the same Apple ID and having Bluetooth on is all that's required.

Still can't get it to work on my Air, though.

I can *sometimes* get it to work, but only if both devices are already connected to the same wifi network - which again means I probably don't need a hotspot. If I turn off wifi on iOS 8, it stops working or being available. MBA 2013 and iPhone5S.

That is definitely not true...it uses bluetooth when your device is nearby. I know because I have my wifi off on my iPhone and my iPad is listing it under personal hotspots (Without having personal hotspot on.)

That said, it is still not working for me.

That is ofc. quite logical, since the Personal Hotspot feature needs wifi to be on.

However, both devices need nót be on the same wifi network. That would more or less defeat the point of a personal hotspot.

It used to work earlier then I restored my iPad as new and now it's broken. I have the same Apple ID on both.

So is bluetooth just used for the discovery and turning on hotspot on the phone? or is it also the hotspot connection?

hope not.

Thus far I have only been able to set up personal hotspot through my MBA when both are on the same network. When my iPhone wifi is on but on a separate network, it will not appear as an option.
