My iPad 3 works fine works fine on 7.1.1, IMHO not everyone wants an ipad for gaming.
However it be so much better if Apple allowed owners of older devices to try the newer software then revert if would the new software is causes issues you can't live with.

I was reluctant but bit the bullet one that pesky update flag finally appeared on the settings app

That's how Apple gets you, the pesky red badge trick. Tbh, I like the red badge on my settings icon. It gives the flat, boring grey icon a little needed color. :)

I second this as well. It's a joke Apple stops signing firmware.

My next tablet (whenever I feel my iPad 3 is not satisfying my needs) will probably be an android one due to its more open ness ... Not sure what advantage iPad now provides ... Samsung has caught up and doesn't restrict you from rolling back

Samsung authorizes roll back but the main problem is they don't provide upgrades anymore when your tablet is one year old ...

I hope iOS 8.1 fixes my iPad 3. iOS 7.1.2 worked fine on it, but iOS 8.0 ruined it. I hardly use it anymore.

I am beginning to hope maybe iOS 8.1 will fix the problems with the iPhone 6 as well, have apple actually built any hardware yet, that iOS 8 actually runs faultlessly on. I have experienced many lockups and temporary situations where the iPhone 6s touch screen fails to respond, thought it was app problem at first, but the amount of iPhone 6 versions of the apps seem not to have solved the problem, seems it maybe the phone or the os, but as my iPhone 5 did the same after the update, am now leaning towards the iOS .

I don't get this. My iPhone 6 using iOS 8.0.2 is solid. I'll upgrade anyway.
