Not sure if I'm remembering correctly from the keynote but, I think they mentioned the phone would have to be plugged into a USB port in the car ... Which would most likely mean it would be charging... Battery life might not be an issue at that point.

This is what I have been reading also.

I like the idea of seeing how much battery life is being sucked up by an app. I have a pretty good idea on what is killing my phone, but it would be nice validate what I am seeing. :D

$4.99 Reeder 2

Did I say it was detrimental to me? No. I just said it was annoying, which it is.

I assure you, the integrated browser RSS feeds in iOS 8's Mobile Safari's "Shared Links" won't be anything like the power user functionality in Reeder 2 (or any dedicated RSS feed reader client, for that matter.)

True, but I will just have to see how the system integration plays out.

And this is what appears when you tap that:

Also note, Accessibility's new "Grayscale Mode:"

I wonder if this mode would also provide better battery life, in a pinch? It does on the Galaxy S5's "Ultra Power Savings Mode..."

It doesn't provide better battery life since the screen in the iPhone isn't OLED like in the galaxy phones.

Good info, thanks. I knew about OLED but I thought that battery savings only applied there when comparing illuminated pixels vs. nom-illuminated pixels (ie: black space.) I didn't think it also mattered when comparing color to grayscale.

I guess the next question then is, will the iPhone 6 (or whatever the next iPhone gen is called) use an OLED screen? Hmmmm....

I'd love the "In Case of Emergency" info to be available from the lock screen.

But even if it isn't, if I'm injured I probably still have at least one of my thumbs (I have both scanned), right?

Gary

has been available on iOS for a long time....

Copied from Android along with third-party keyboards and "hey Siri".

Oh come on. That's not trolling. After years of "Samesung" comments, the tables have turned, and the Apple fans don't like it.

There's no question Apple are just incorporating features that have been available on other platforms for years.

"Ok, Google" and "Hey, Siri". That's blatant copying, you can't argue with that.

wrong. this is not Apple copying google.

Voice activating Siri has been available since before 'ok, google'

Indeed. In the meantime, try holding off on feeling "annoyed," then. That sort of instinctual response is bad for the soul.

Heh, I agree. Plus, I really like Reeder 2's various sharing options. They already have a "save to reading list" option so that only the stories I like are in Safari.

Perhaps via jailbreak tweak. But the stock UI for Siri, from Apple, hasn't been voice-activated, until iOS 8.

And that's not the point, really. Voice-activated virtual assistant software was available before Android's "Ok Google." See my Star Trek screenshot above.

Yep. I use it to Save to Pocket. I like that app/service more than Safari's Reading List.

ICE contact information from lock screen

has been available on iOS for a long time....

You've been able to make an emergency call from the lock screen,
but not access a person's "ICE" contact information (In Case of Emergency).

At least I can't on my 5s.

Your medical ID can be found on the "Emergency" dialer, as long as you have a passcode enabled on your device.

I assume this image is from iOS 8 beta and not currently on iOS 7 (my iPhone doesn't have 8 yet). I do have a passcode set.
