*I posted this in the OS X forum, but as I predicted, nobody posts in that forum ha!

If one was to keep important files on either a MacBook Pro or an iPhone 6, both with the latest software updates. Would one be a more "secure" solution than the other? By secure I am referring to whether someone who has access to the device can get into the data.

I was under the assumption that it would be the OS X powered MBP as you can use FileVault to encrypt the data. Also, assuming the iPhone is more likely to be lost or stolen, it may be less secure in that sense.

Is this true? Or are they both relatively the same?

I realize this may be a totally redundant question but one of my colleagues was asking me this and I myself am curious to know what MR thinks! I tried searching the web and could not find an answer.

If you use a (strong) password on the iPhone that data is also encrypted. Remember a month or two ago the fuss the FBI etc were making because they couldn't get into locked iPhones?

A device is only as strong as the passwords used and care taken by the user.

Can you detail this more? I'm trying to look into it... The FBI were mad at Apple because they couldn't get into locked iPhones?

Just Google "iOS8 and FBI" or "iOS8 encryption".
Some apps offer encryption on top of the os (ex: Goodreader), but I don't know if that really offers another level or not.

somewhat a different view - but it is a lot easier to lose a phone than a laptop/desktop. To me secure means also not lost. I'm not sure why you wouldn't keep on both to avoid loss - with the proper security on each.
