iOS 9.1 Beta 5 Changes, Fixes & Bugs

Depends on the device. From what I've read from some users :
1.2GB on the iPhone 5c (should be the same for the regular 5)
1.3GB on the iPhone 5s
1.0GB on the iPad Mini 1
1.4GB on the iPhone 6 and 6s
1.6GB on the iPhone 6 plus

1.6GB on the iPhone 6S plus
I hope its getting better now

iPhone 6 Plus still has lag when using the app switcher. But with reduce motion on it is perfect, finally!

Is the volume limit bug still exist? On beta 3&4, sometimes video playback volume is very soft.

Fixed it by turning music volume limit off and on. It seem like music volume limit affecting other apps.

Even better yet is the definitive response to any criticism, "complacent people like you [or me...] are the very reason why Apple probably won't bother to resolve this issue." By calling out ridiculous accusations that Apple is, "deliberately and maliciously crippling the iPhone 6 all to increase sales of the 6S" you and I are the problem.

Regardless of the unreasonableness or unrealistic expectations of any iPhone owner, you can't mock them. Apple charges a 'premium' price for its products, therefore, such owners get to hold Apple to impossible standards. Remember, Apple stuff "just works", right? And if Steve Jobs were here he would never have allowed this lag or stutter.

Oh wait, there were keynotes he gave and products he launched that weren't so hot. But iOS 9 is seriously the worst iOS ever, no joke!

Notice how there is no mention of stutter or lag in the iOS 6 thread, because THERE WAS NONE. I remember the experience of using it on my 5 very clearly. 7, 8, and now 9 have introduced all of the stutter around the OS.

The reason a lot of people are upset about little stutters is because prior to iOS 7, there were NEVER animation stutters in iOS. Everything was perfectly smooth. It was like liquid, 60FPS animations all the time.

Ever since iOS 7 came out there have been animation stutters here and there, and we've been wanting the smoothness of iOS 6 back.

I don't let it ruin my life, but I do miss the smoothness of iOS 6, even now three versions later. Whatever dev at Apple was doing such a great job making the system so smooth clearly left (or lost their talent) when iOS 7 came about.

iOS 6 was only really smooth on A5 or A6 devices, but the iPhone 4 with the A4 didn't run it well (in fact, I don't think there was ever a lag-free experience with that thing). iOS 7 was horrendously slow on A4 and A5 devices, but okay on A6 and A7. iOS 8 kept the same pattern as 7, just adding the A8 devices which were just as fast as the A7 devices in my opinion.

Smoothness really depends on the device you have, how much you actually notice it or care, and the software optimization.

It's ridiculous. The 6S is more powerful than the iPad Air 2, which was already approaching MacBook-level performance, yet neither can run a mobile OS smoothly. This is newest-gen hardware that is having issues! On iOS 6, there wasn't an issue to be found whatsoever on year-old hardware.

Leave the floodgates open, people. We need more and more and more performance related feedback. That way, it will actually be fixed or at least alleviated. The state iOS 9 is in is inexcusable. A MacBook-level device should run iOS smooth as butter. Heck, even A6-based devices should be fine, other than the app switcher, not really any new translucency has been added since iOS 7.1 which was great (still not perfect!!!) I've lost hope for my iPad mini 2, it has had issues all the way back on iOS 7, the iPhone 5 always handled iOS 7 better than this iPad.

For me beta 5 has been a lot snappier for both my devices iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 haven't installed on my iPad just yet, the only problem I am still facing is lag when swiping down for spotlight but my temp fix is still working "disabling spotlight suggestions" other then that the app switcher lag, cc lag, app open lag, Touch ID lag, is all gone! Good job Apple keep it coming iOS 9.1 is what iOS 9 should have been from the begginging.

Because you're already on the beta track... downgrade to a release os from itunes if you want off the betas.

So will I see the official public iOS 9.1 release via the iOS Settings app, or will I have to install it with iTunes?

Also, if the official 9.1 release is gonna show up on my iPhone like any other OTA update, and I did want off the beta track, does that mean I'd have to install 9.1 though iTunes instead of OTA?

I agree 100% with you there. Send Apple feedback. Proper, calm feedback though. Not some rant about how it's ruined their life because it's slower than whatever. Apple and pretty much any company will just toss out and ignore rants.

Really, all I want fixed is the control center and the app switcher. Entering and exiting the switcher is done at a good 10-15fps on my iPad mini 2. Still isn't perfect with increase contrast on.

See I think that is the problem people are facing, it's sad but from what I have seen and heard, "no actual prove" I think as many others that metal is the problem.

Some new stutters have been introduced while swiping between apps in the app switcher on their iPad Air 2! This is getting crazy really. I was recently giving someone a demonstration of how immaculate & perfect this aspect of the device was, which only Apple could have done, and now they've managed to break it!

See that's what is strange to me, you'd think, keyword think, that Apple would be fixing newer devices before anything considering some people are still buying iPhone 6 and 6+ new for 600-700$ "don't know the exact price" but iPhone 4,5,5s are way outdated compared, I don't even own a iPhone 6 but I do know if I was experiencing this is be taking my phone to Apple everyday til something was done, "high hoping" lol just my rant on this

Yeah it got me really thinking. Because if metal does responsible for the problem: (1.)why there's no official statement from Apple (like app thinning did), and (2.) Why does the benchmark shows game perform better (even only marginally) by metal?

Thought I'd share this in the actual beta 5 thread, my 60fps video of beta 5 running on the Air 2.

Make sure you select 720p60 from the YouTube options to see the animations smoothly. There is no lag.

I think it's both. What I'm hoping is, Metal hasn't been optimized yet, it's just been quickly jammed into the frame work of things, and the improvements will be seen later when they fully implement it how it should be. On top of that, it probably has caused all sorts of new bugs which, in turn, are resulting in decreased performance.

The 64-bit architecture also means less free RAM, so that can contribute to animation lag when the device is choking on RAM. Animations are actually stored in memory once they're performed, so that's why you can open a folder and have it be totally slow and extremely laggy, but then you close it and open it again and it's perfectly fine every time. The lack of RAM means smooth animations are never cached for long, so we see the lag more. I have no idea what I'm talking about really, but based on what I've heard, that's what's happening.

Are you being sarcastic? If not, you either are blind or you are blatantly lying. I don't remember the frame rate dropping at all when using the app switcher or while opening or closing apps or scrolling or ANYTHING on iOS 6. That all happens now, on every device. That's the reality of things.

I'd be complaining now stop, see the problem is there aren't enough people that see this as a problem, my wife thought iOS 9 was fine, when it was doing nothing but lagging I don't understand it, it drives me nuts. But unless Apple hears this from enough of us they will ignore it, as they have done since iOS 8
