Does Watch OS 1.0.1 only work with iOS 8? I had the above software versions and cannot pair my watch to the phone. Any ideas?

That is not true, I'm on iOS 9 beta 2 and Watch OS 1.01 and it's working fine.
It works perfectly!!! Just try to pair it manually, and the first couple of tries will fail, but after 2-3 tries it will paired. I am with iOS 9b2 and aw os 1.0.1 and is absolutely perfect.
I have tried both pairing methods numerous times and it gets hung up and tries to restart the process
Yup -- works fine for me, too. I did the upgrades to b1 and b2, though, so never had a need to repair.

Got my Apple watch today finally and faced this issue with pairing. after reading online i did the same "reset all settings" but wow its not worth it imo lol i now have push notifications screwed on several apps with no options to enabled; i think it will have to delete and redownload but at that point i think its best to downgrade to iOS 8 and enjoy apple music .
