If it uses Wifi Calling, I wonder if EE (UK) users can use it, as we also have Wifi Calling

And if El Capitan can do it, why not my iPad or even iPod Touch .... interesting times ahead

still need to solve 5 Apple devices ringing the same room.

you know, when you pick up one to answer a call and the other 4 devices are still ringing and you have to leave the freaking room because you can't hear the person on the call.

Really? Mine doesn't do that. When I take a call, all other nearby devices stop ringing. As expected.

Very cool feature. Looking forward to this one. But I agree that the non-synced missed call notifications are a problem.

I use continuity everyday for phone calls(outgoing/incoming) and that has never happened to me(iPad + iMac).

Btw, why would you leave the room? You know there's a mute button on the keyboard, right?

He's right, I get that bug to and so does my office partner. Very annoying.

If My iPad & Mac are home and my iPhone is with me when I'm out the house , I don't want the iPad/Mac ringing when I get a phone call on my iPhone

Is this how it's going to work ?

I'm testing this feature out now and it's working great. The iPhone doesn't even need to be turned on for Wi-Fi calling to work on the iPad. The Apple Watch and Mac still need the iPhone to be on to 'relay' the call. It now appears to use Wi-Fi and not cellular which was happening yesterday.

I don't know about you, but my devices are pretty good at shutting up soon as I pick up a call. Maybe a one second lag or so, but nothing unbearable. It used to be much worse.

Well, it's official. It's happening.

Apple is clearly laying out all the groundwork for the big "aha" moment. Steve Jobs' final commandment. -

The last move before the AppleHome (aka, AppleTV) announcement. The One device to rule them all. Iphone Call continuity in ios 8 and Yosemite was nothing but a beta test, with the ultimate intent of having the feature on the TV.

Apple knows that the key to complete dominance for the post pc era is complete convergence, and the AppleHome will provide that.

For close to a century, the TV and by extension, the living room, has been the family's main area for entertainment, communication, relationships and bonding. Apple wants to monetize that. They know this is the key. Forget controlling your "insert device here" using your fridge..LG had it wrong. People don't meet in the kitchen..., nor the dining room. Many families don't even eat together any more. But they'll always find time watch to watch honey booboo the Bachelor and Kardashians together...yes. (aka the downfall of humanity).

Imagine...complete covergence of the app store, iTunes store, phone, messaging, video conferencing, apps, Apple music, video, youtube, etc etc, all available on your favorite flat panel TV, with the convenience of having our fat asses on the couch. "Apple for the win. "

But you need to access it right? Internet providers are excited about the opportunity to sell more bandwidth and have clients for years to come. Well...you see, that will be Apple's last crusade.

for the past 5 years, the real long-term strategy...the ultimate end goal...is to squeeze out the internet service providers, and to buy-out an existing mobile Telco. Who cares about phone numbers and physical lines...the key is providing data services, hence apple's server farms and massive investment in data-related activities. Wireless communications technologies are now fast enough. Apple knows that data and bandwidth is the key...that's what they had to originally convince ATT to increase when the original Iphone was released.

Apple wants to own the Cloud...and monetize every means of "connecting" to the Cloud. If I were CEO and had the resources to do it, that would be my plan. Own the systems, the technology and the hardware. I won't charge you to use my software, it's free for everyone..., but I'll charge you access it when you use my wireless broadband. Let other shmucks come up with apps and content...throw them a bone (30%) to keep' em quiet, and build-out real physical capital assets. Yup. At the end of the day, Apple is like Warren Buffet...it only invests in long-term, physical strategies. All the other activities engaged by Apple is a means to get there.

Apple will let the old internet service providers and networking companies fight over the enterprise market...as their needs exceed wireless capabilities.

I always chuckle when I read stories about Apple's "interest" in cars.....they don't want to sell you a car, neither does Tesla. They want to sell you the energy. (hence Tesla's recent battery announcement...could be a game changer)

sweet!!!
replacing iPhone upgrades by iPad mini (LTE) upgrades from now on.

and planning on leaving the iPhone at home, plugged in 24/7.

The mute button doesn't work for my Mac, cause I use optical audio out.
But you're right, I could grab the remote on my desk and hit mute for my receiver. But it's difficult to think logically like that when someone is saying "hello, hello" into my ear on the phone and I'm just hearing my Mac ring loudly!
I'm not sure why this happens to me. I'm using an old iMac (see sig) without bluetooth 4.0. So most continuity features don't work. Perhaps that's why? No idea.
It doesn't happen every time, btw, or I would disable the feature. Just sometimes

I read something on another site that there are new settings for this.

The article was called 18 features in iOS 9 you may have missed during the keynote

From that article:
11. Choose which of your devices get phone calls and texts
Don't want your phone calls to ring your iPad? Prefer your texts stay off your work Mac? In iOS 9, you'll have granular control about what rings where, and you'll be able to turn certain machines off entirely.

I just noticed the option for text only in the current IOS. Guess they're just adding to it.

This was what I wanted more than Music. I can now use my iPad mini retina to answer cell phone calls (WiFi/LTE). Make it so that I can pair my watch with my iPad, and I'll never need my phone again...

And before you loose your mind doing the, "who would want to hold their iPad up to their head and use it as a phone..."

Uhm, NO. It's called Beats Studio. Bluetooth audio devices have been around for a while now. And in the car, I'd just answer through the built in system... So I REALLY don't want to be required to waste money on a phone anymore.

Also, when you take the call on your phone and later your MacBook is claiming you have a "missed FaceTime call".

This!! I'm really hoping Apple expands Continuity by introducing notifications sync. For everything. If I take a call on my iPad, no missed calls on my iPhone and Mac. If I miss a call, I can listen to voicemails on whatever device I have. If I dismiss a Facebook notification on my phone, I won't see it 3 days later in my Mac's Notification Center. If I get an iPhone-only notification, I can see it on my Mac, etc etc...

Coming in iOS10: iPad can receive phone calls when on cellular.

That would be awesome!!

As I have a 6 plus but use an iPhone 5 when out cycling, this will be an excellent feature (if it works on the 5)

I wonder if this will work with the watch? So as long as you are on a known wifi network with the watch you can receive calls even if your phone is at home?

I honestly thought they should use iCloud to connect the watch to the phone so you don't have to have your phone with you. Maybe? Would still need to have the watch on a wifi network so might not help while jogging but still, it would be cool and with more cities providing free wifi while walking around outside it could happen.

There is like a one ring delay. Maybe that's what he means.
I used to get that when I used a bluetooth gadget to connect my T-mobile service to my landlines at home. I would answer the landline in the living room or on my actual cellphone and the unanswered landlines would continue ringing one more ring.

I get the multiple rings on the iMac if I answer the phone whilst at home. I have actually disabled this on my iPhone due to this. I now need to disable it on my wife's phone as she is now getting teh same thing. I do think this whole hand off / continuity thing could do with some sort of infographic instruction - we have three iMacs (all connected to wifi), two iPhones, two cellular iPads and two wifi only ipads all used by three people (one only six years old) and I don't have a clear vision of how this should work across all of the devices. For some things I want the same iCloud account to be used across all devices and for others not so much - I don't think they have got the "household user group" quite sorted yet.

meh. not really my thing. This is just one more reason to say "this feature didn't work correctly"

when a more simple approach would have been "I'll call you back" ..

I do like this stuff, but if there is a possibility in such a situation when u are relying on this to work, then snuff your nose when it doesn't... well.... u use it... not me :)
