Are u noticing any other lag or performance issues besides the app switcher? I noticed in a video for iOS 9.2 beta 2, Apple is improving the speed of the app switcher. How is battery life for u on 9 compared to 8?

Are u noticing any other lag or performance issues besides the app switcher? I noticed in a video for iOS 9.2 beta 2, Apple is improving the speed of the app switcher. How is battery life for u on 9 compared to 8?
Apart from the app switcher there are times where there are frame skips in the zoom in animation when you launch an app but they are rare.
Battery life is the same as on iOS 8 for me
I really hope Apple gets it together and makes iOS 9 a really smooth and good version before 10. 9.2 looks like it will be better and hopefully it will help a lot. For some reason like I said before iOS 9 is faster on older devices and slower on newer ones. I don't understand this unless it has to do with 64 bit processors vs 32 in older devices. I really wish we had an operating system as smooth as iOS 6. Ios 6 was amazing on my iPad 3 in 2012 and my iPod touch 5. Operating systems have evolved though and required more resources and have become more complex. I really wish that this cycle of experiencing a good iOS at the end of the version before the new one comes out quits. It would be nice to have a good iOS all of the time. It seems you get all of the bugs and issues fixed in the current version and then they announce the next and you experience bugs and issues all over again.

Well, if look the half full glass: iOS8 was slow and buggy until 8.4.1.
Even 8.4.1 is slower on the same devices than 7.
iOS9.1 is just a little bit slower than 8.4.1 on most devices, but 9 has been pretty stable since 9.0.1.
So there have been improvements and hopefully this won't be an exception.
People seem to forget one thing: EVERY SINGLE iOS release since 2.0 was slower than the one that came before. Infact the slowdowns are getting more minor as time goes on. iOS4 was good on the iPhone 4, pretty good on the 3gs, which was at the time in the place where the 6 is now, and garbage, pure unusable garbage, on the 3g, which was in the place where the 5s is now.
It was so horrible they did a parody online. Since I was on a 3g when 4.0 came out, i know that the "speed" you could see on that video was the same I had everyday on my phone.
So, things have improved. 🙂 People tend to forget things and see the past with rose colored glasses. That said, I'm not finding excuses for Apple, they said iOS9 was gonna be 1.6x smoother thanks to metal, so they dig their own grave. BUT...apart from that:
- 9 has been pretty ok since 9.0.1, where 8 always had pretty serious bugs until 8.4.1 which still has the discoveryd issue.
- 9.2, AT THE MOMENT, is much smoother than 9.0.x and 9.1
ps: iPhone 3g on iOS4. How would people react today if the 5s had that speed on 9.0? 😀

Why did they even switch to Metal if OpenGL was working just fine?If it ain't broke don't fix it

Well, i don't know but we can make some speculations:
- open gl is an horrible framework and Apple has no control on its evolution. They probably think they can progress faster and with less bugs in the future now that they switched to metal.
- they probably thought they could make metal faster than opengl, but found some problems along the way and didn't have time to optimise properly. They are improving pretty fast now. It took almost a year (8.0 to 8.3) for iOS8 to get some speed improvements. iOS9 has been released a month ago and we already got a small speed improvement with 9.1 and a bigger one seems to be coming with 9.2.
I think that with Metal they took a bet. They think it can be better than Open GL in the long term, with a minor short term penality.
