Downloaed iOS 9 update, updated the phone, when it finished, it rebooted, and is now stuck at the lock screen, cant swipe up for option menu (wifi, brightness etc) or notification pull down.

Also now when I try to unlock it to open the phone it shows I need to enter a 6 digit passcode... I have never set a passcode for this phone ever.

Wont connect to itunes and shows that I have to unlock it with a pass code (that I never set to begin with) to use itunes. Wont boot into DFU mode either since itunes wont connect with it to restore from a backup.

Any insight of what this thing is doing? I use my phone for work and business and CANNOT go without my phone for a day.

    Thanks!

What version of iTunes? There was a new release yesterday 12.3 that adds iOS9 compatibility. I did the upgrade which failed horribly (some files missing to uninstall the old version apparently). Could not see my device once it finished. So had to download the full version and install it that way. Afterwards it connected and now sees the phone fine.

Not the latest apparently. I will update and try again. Thanks for the simple advice I completely overlooked.

To update on this, updated everything on my computer... still does the same thing. I can still receive texts, calls, and notifications show up on the lock screen... phone calls go through.. but none of my contacts show up either. Still cannot boot in DFU since Itunes will not connect to it. WTF

I know this might sound stupid but try a different USB port, had this issue before, also swap the lightening cable if you have a spare.

Not at all. I tried two different cables and both USB ports with no such luck. I hate going to Apple, they are never any help. I do everything on my own typically with help from you wonderful people. But this is really stressing me out as the day goes on.

Did you have keychain enabled on iCloud, if so, do you know what the pin for that was? it's possible it's put the pin in for that.

I do not believe so, and I tried the 6 digit combinations that it could possibly be (i only use these very sparingly) Thanks for the insight!

Possible hard reset, home button and power, could be a glitch with the memory state, if not sadly it's DFU only for this job, from what I can think.

Tried multiple times to do both. Will not boot to DFU because i tunes wont recognize the device because of the lock. Sucks.

iTunes should recognize the phone in dfu mode regardless of a passcode. That's actually how most theifs try to get past them

    Ill try again.

Not a new phone, I got this phone last September new. Just updated the software since the badge was annoying me and hadn't had the time or space on my air to back it up until now. I figured I would try iOS9 out... then this happened and extremely disappointed.

Do you mind telling me how you got it to recovery mode? I tried to update my phone yesterday to Ios9 and when it rebooted it would not open either and the only thing I have gotten is the lock screen with a 6 digit code just like you did. I tried every number I could think of. it locked me out for 1 min then 3 mins then 15 mins now 60 mins because all the numbers I was trying were wrong. I have no idea what to do..It has got to be a "glitch" grrrr I also use my phone for work and I have been w/o it all day today. I have googled everything and then I found you! I am sorry you are going through the same thing but if you could help at all I sure would appreciate it.
