Basically I want to self teach myself to create a few basic iOS Apps for experience and to possibly make some extra cash as a way to partially pay for college. I plan on going into Software Engineering next year so I thought it could give me some good experience and practice.

However, I am pretty new to the software side of things (always was interested in creating software/applications but was more concerned about building computers). I have done some basic research on the topic and have downloaded some free tutorials about Objective-C but don't really know where to go from there. So basically I have a few questions...

-What do you recommend as a good book or tutorial for learning Objective-C (or any other languages that would be necessary/helpful for iOS Apps
-After I learn the languages, where should I go from there?
-How do you get good exposure for an app you just have released?
-Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I can only comment on the first two questions but here ya go.

1. Two books that I would recommend.

For learning about the language itself.
Programming in Objective-C by Stephen Kochan

For learning about creating iOS apps.
iOS Programming: Big Nerd Ranch Guide

I have both these books and am just beginning the journey myself but I have seen a lot of positive reviews about them. I am sure there are other great books but these seem to be the most well known.

2. Once you learn the language just try to think of apps that you want or would use. Starting a project from beginning to finish is the best learning tool. Doing research and discovering how to accomplish the task is a great way to learn more about the language and development in general.

I would see if a mod could move this thread to the iOS development sub forum. I think you would get more responses there. Especially for your third question.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely give those books a shot.
