Currently running the latest beta of 16.6 on iPhone 14 PM but I’ve been having this “issue” since 16.4 RC build, possibly earlier. It seems to have started about the time I started using advanced data protection which was around a couple months after it was available on the beta build.

Details: Soon after turning on ADP and setting up alternate methods of data access recovery I began getting pop up notifications on screen to “verify security settings”. I’d also get a red badge notification on the settings app. Whether I tapped the notification on screen or inside the settings app it takes me to a page asking me to input my device passcode “to help prevent losing access to iCloud, etc etc.”. Inputting the code would make the notification clear away but it will come back within a day and several betas ago it would sometimes come back within hours. Needless to say it’s highly annoying.

I submitted a couple bug reports over a couple betas with zero response. I started thinking this was “a feature” so sent a report for clarification….with zero response. I’ve had other apps like Signal ask for the device passcode on occasion but it specifically states that it will ask you this now and then so you don’t forget your passcode. With the iOS issue you have zero idea why it’s asking because the reasoning is vague.

Turning ADP off seems to stop the issue so I can only assume that’s related. Also, I found that turning wifi/data off when attempting to “verify security settings” prevents the passcode from clearing the issue. I’ll just get a pop up that states verification can’t be done without wifi/data turned on. This tells me the passcode is leaving my device which seems very counter intuitive to privacy/security.

I’ve looked all over Reddit etc and have only found one or two other people with a similar but not exact issue and am hoping someone here can shed some light on it.

Apologies for the long post but this has been ongoing far longer than any other beta issue I’ve seen. If it even is a beta issue!

This is happening on my iPhone 14 pro & iPad mini 6, about once every day or two. Itʻs annoying and Iʻd like it to stop.

Please update if you get a response from Apple.

This is happening even on iOS 16.2 which is what my iPhone 14 Pro Max is on... Are you using two factor authentication? I don't... That could be the reason for the prompt... This is not happening on iOS 15.x and older...

No, I donʻt use 2-factor authentication for my Apple devices.

I wish Apple would fix this.
