No it does not. "Show me recent calls" gives you a call log without any authentication.

Not sure why you're doubting me as I didn't even ask siri what you're saying above. I asked siri to "show my phone call log" (as I said in my previous post) as someone else had mentioned earlier in the topic. When I do that, siri asks me to unlock my phone first...

StuartL PLEASE READ or WATCH the video but stop posting crap.

The phrase is "Show me recent calls".

All the security issues with Siri are explained in detail in this video (which was already posted several times).

Just tried that phrase and it still tells me to unlock my phone. I have taken a screen capture but I won't bother posting it.

I'll give up on this thread now as you clearly don't want to hear that the issue isn't black and white, there's got to be another factor involved as to why different people get different results.

With regard to a passcode you get prompted when setting up as new or most will have seen it during the iOS8 upgrade. It asks you to set a passcode during the process and the option to ignore it is a lot smaller and even if you choose it you are asked if you are sure so it really does try to make you set one.

Exactly. Besides the security problems of not having a passcode is immediately obvious but the fact that your info might be given out to anyone without unlocking your phone isn't. I'm thinking that's what people are calling a problem.

Yes StuartL... you got the special APPLE PR Siri, she's different from any other Siri on the planet.

Congratulations, you successfully spammed this thread - a thread that is actually valid and important - please go away.

I can confirm. I used "Hey Siri" to avoid unlocking the phone with my thumb when using the home button. Said "Show me recent calls" and it started to show me my last 25 calls. I interrupted and asked to "Show me contact info for xxxxxx xxxxxx" which was the last call I made. It showed the entire contact card for that person.

Yes and via "Other..." button you get full access to all contacts as well.

So again...on a locked iPhone everyone can post to Facebook, call people, Skype people, get access to all messages, contacts, complete call history and more.

At this point, why even lock the phone?

This should not be the default behavior.

Those are hands free features. I use them all the time while riding.
If you are concerned then turn it off. I want those FEATURES for hands free. If android doesn't do the same then I wont be changing to Android any time soon. :apple:

I find it concerning that you don't have to unlock the phone to turn it off. Seems like an easy step to take to prevent a thief from being able to power down an iPhone to prevent tracking.

...Siri should be able to access that data, even from the lockscreen. But that should be an opt-in situation....

Why should anyone be able to assess a complete call log with ALL personal data from the lock screen? That IS private information and was't available in iOS 7 and I bet will be removed in 8.01.

Siri is enabled by default and I want the convince. Have you disabled it? If not I can likely get your address.

Just push the Home button and say "show my phone call log" and you will get a list of phone call and names. Just scroll through the list and look for a pattern (most called by name). Then one that has the most will likely be the significant other of the iPhone owner. Now hit the Home button and say "Contact info for Jane Doe" and you have the iPhone owner's address.

Just do it and see how easy it is. Pick up any iPhone and...

1) Say "show my phone call log"
2) Pick most often call and say "Contact info for Jane Doe"

There is NO way you should be able to get a log of all phone calls made by the iPhone just by asking from the lock screen.

----------

The iPad doesn't have phone call log info.

I know, re-read what I wrote. I'm fully aware of how and what Siri is. What I said was its stupid for a "fix" to be turning off a main feature of the phone, and I compared the fact that you can get information like call log from Siri on a locked phone, but to delete an email you have to enter a passcode. That's retarded!!

Wow. That's a pretty big flaw right there. I accessed all my nights which until I downloaded 1password last week was where I kept all my passwords. Dumb I know, but I kept my phone locked.

Then the fact you can access my phone book and access everything there is to know about me is scary. Yes turning off Siri on lock screen is a fix but we shouldnt have to do that. I should be secure and be able to check movie times and sports scores without unlocking my phone.

I don't care about the texting or posting to Facebook but accessing my phone history and showing peoples addresses is no Bueno!

Pretty sure this worked like that in iOS 7 as well--I recall similar videos circulating around talking about similar things being accessible.

For example, the discussion at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1732251/

I don't see or remember anything about being able to access the phone log from the lock screen. Do you have a direct link to this info? This has to be a security issue since anyone that has access or steals your iPhone could have access to your email address, home phone number and physical address (plus your closest friends info).

This isn't the behavior mine exhibits. If I say "Show me my recent calls", it will even though the phone is locked. iOS 8.

It's always funny how some people complain about the fact that Apple doesn't give us freedom/choices...but when they do there is always someone who is talking about security issues or similiar.

You can disable siri in the lockscren by going to Settings => code => enable use when device is locked => siri => 0

Wait how do I do this, settings then code? Im not seeing code anywhere

With mine, when you click on a note (assuming what you meant but nights) it ask me for my passcode. So Notes are still fairly safe.

On a locked iPhone/iPad everyone can (via Siri) look up contacts, complete call history, messages, post stuff to Facebook and more.

Without fingerprint, without being asked for a passcode, on a locked iDevice.

.

Good catch. Have you forwarded this to Apple or are you just wanting YouTube hits?

Apple needs to address the home screen functionality. Especially being able to toggle flight mode etc too.

Should've restricted Siri on home screen to registered fingers via TouchID, which totally makes sense. Did you report this to Apple?

Seems like in part it has to do with enabling voice control. If voice control is disabled Siri asks you to unlock your phone first however you seem to be able to bypass that.

To disable showing your call log, go to Settings>Touch ID and Passcode and turn off "Voice Dial"

@Winona Northdakota:

If you say "show recent calls" - it doesn't ask for a passcode, that was already mentioned in this thread multiple times. Read before you write.

And call history is not the only thing that is wide open, you can access messages, you can post to Facebook, can read all private notes and so on WITHOUT a passcode on anyones iDevice.

Also, the point is that this is the default behavior without users even knowing which makes the use of a passcode pretty much useless.

Things like posting to Facebook or sending someone a text message are the very things Siri was created and advertised for with simplicity of just using it by talking to it and not having to interact with the phone in any other way.
