Since I am new to iPhone I've only recently discovered the default Podcast app. It seems quite nice and well integrated with iOS.

How would you rate the performance and feature set of this app? Do you prefer other apps for your podcasts? Which ones?

If I shift to another app will I see a significant difference in how this app will impact battery backup?

Can you point out to some links that give tips on how to setup and use the Apple Podcast app? I am new to this and know just the basic features.

Thanks!

a lot of users do not like apple's Podcast app.

for me, i love it, however.
it didn't work so well before recently.
but now i can't find anything about it that doesnt work.

using apple's Podcast app it does follow iOS settable rules for not downloading on Cellular, and Notifications, and Default settings, etc etc.
but if you decide to go with a non apple app, it won't impact yr battery life.

There's so many threads about podcast apps... have a look around at those too.

I loved it until my library of podcasts grew and it became difficult to manage them all so I switched to Pocket Casts. Well worth the money

You probably won't notice any battery difference at all - if you're having battery issues you'll need to look elsewhere on your phone for the culprits

One thing that I am a unsure about is the effect of downloading big audio files on the phone and deleting them regularly. Isn't it generally not a good idea to save and delete big files from a "hard drive"?
What effect on the life cycle of the iPhone's SSD will this have?
If I don't download any podcasts then I can always stream them off on my 4G for which I have a good amount of data.

Definitely, the ability to set those defaults is one reason I would like to rely on the Apple app.
Can you share how you've setup podcast on your phone?
Thanks!

Honestly, don't worry about it. If the impact on the phone's flash storage being affected by you downloading files to it is an issue, maybe you should look at a different device. SSDs are incredibly reliable and Apple's OS is probably market leader in terms of managing the device.

If it was that much of an issue all iPhones would have bricked by now with the number of iOS updates that are pushed and installed OTA.

I used to use Overcast, but I don’t see much benefit over the default podcasts app to be honest. I stick with the default apps wherever possible.
