    Morning guys,

This is kind of a generic iOS question, so if it's in the wrong place please let me know. My company and I are investigating using our existing fleet of iPhones or potentially iPads (if purchasing one is justified) to simplify our service division. The way we currently process service work is very cumbersome, and paper work intensive. We can process credit cards but its the sort of thing where we need to take down the info, and run it when we're back in the office. All of our paperwork is hand written (messy!), and our current forms are very dated.

Ideally I envision us being able to use something similar to what you see used at the Apple store. If we could write up a work order, have someone digitally sign it, and then print it for their records we'd really be able to streamline a lot of paperwork. I've been investigating printers, payment processing apps, etc... and I haven't really found anything ideal yet. I discovered the P25 printer by Blue Bamboo, but it still doesn't seem quite right. While the credit card reader is nice it's not a necessity and is actually the least desired feature. It also seems very limited in use with a 2" receipt.

In a perfect world we'd like:
    • Mobile printing
    • As close to 8.5"x11" as possible
    • Powered by the phone? I can see a dead printer at 3AM on a service call being an issue, and rather annoying for the service tech. I envision bluetooth, wifi, a cord, or even a dock for this.
    • Credit card capabilities (again, least desired feature currently)
    • Obviously a way to store this digitally for our records, save it back to our server, or possibly email it to the woman in accounting for processing.
    • Capable of editing our standard service work form with all of the customers details. If this requires us to rework our current paperwork that's no issue at all. I realize this is more app dependant than hardware dependant.

I realize this is a very specific request and something like this probably doesn't exist but any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Even suggestions of various apps and hardware that we need to make work together would be helpful since a one stop shopping solution may be harder to come across. I'm also open to suggestions that aren't dependant upon our phones because I have seen some pretty slick mobile offerings used at remote rental car locations, etc...

    Thanks for the help,
    Shawn

I don't believe iOS is the way to go since you need very specific apps to do specific functions. Sorry to say this but I think all you need is a PC. There are plenty of powerful yet portable options these days.
