I just discovered by accident that if you have an Ubuntu computer connected to any type of printer, and you have the "share printers with other systems" ticked on your Ubuntu system, then when you press print on your IOS device your printers appear and you can print from your iPad / iPhone. No software required.

Had been thinking about buying a Lantronix print server, but will try this out for a while.

If you have an old Netbook lying around, Ubuntu is free .......

Ubuntu supports Airprint on 11.10, last I knew they had some issues with iOS 6.x devices not seeing the printers. Not sure if that's still an issue, I consolidated some machines & shut down my Ubuntu a few months ago. Now I use handyPrint on OS X.
