It doesn't seem right that the iOS API would allow an app to delete a user's contacts. Seems like read-only access would be better. A malicious app could obviously wreak havoc with write access to the contacts and who knows what other parts of the phone.

Some apps would need write privileges in order to add contact info to contact cards.

Also what do you think the App revisers do when they check apps :)
