Hello community,

While currency conversion schemes like CAD=X, EURRUB=X, ILS=X are working fine, for some reason entering ILSRUB=X returns "Not found". It used to work before and it isn't working now. On my High Sierra MBA it's working fine, however I can't get it to work on iOS 15 for some reason.

I'd appreciate your feedback.

Thank you but ISRRUB is still not working for some reason. I'd appreciate the solution.

Have you called Apple Support?
No, I haven't. People say it sucks these days and all they would suggest is updating system which I wouldn't. I mean, it's not something big to bother with Apple support, I was just hoping somebody here on this board could come with a solution. It used to work and it is working on MBA with HS installed. My iPhone is on the iOS 15 and it's 13 mini. I have no idea why the particular ILSRUB=X expression wouldn't work while the rest of them have no problem working.

I'm not a currency trader but I'm active in other markets. I did a quick look around and I think your problem could stem from a change at or in the exchange rate data provider for the macOS/iOS Stocks apps. Currently, Yahoo Finance does not seem to provide shekel-ruble rates anywhere, even on its website. But other sources, including one of my brokers, show ILS-RUB without any problems. So I don't think either currency has become illiquid or unconvertible.

For the last several years, I've used the Xe Currency & Money Transfers iOS app for looking at exchange rates and calculating prices when traveling. I just checked and it supports ILS-RUB. If you are not dead set on relying on Apple apps for your currency quotes, the Xe app might work for you.

@KaliYoni
Thank you for suggesting the app. I'll definitely check out the Xe currncy. I'm not a trader or anything like that, it was just convinient to check out the rates at a glance at the widget space.
It just seems hella strange that ILSRUB still works fine on MBA with High Sierra installed. As a matter of fact, I set it long time ago so it probably might get broken if I remove it and try to re-add. So I guess I'd better get my hands off of it meanwhile.

Apple support is a good as it has ever been, best in the industry, based on my observations over far too many years with 1000's of calls. Either people have a bad experience, which does happen, and extrapolate to all of support or they don't know how to work a support issue.

First line support won't know the answer so it will have to go to a senior advisor who likely won't know either. May require an incident logged to development which may or may not work. As far as bothering them that's what they are there for. In this case they are likely the only ones who can get you a definitive answer as to why it is happening.

Xe Currency is great app particularly when you traveling through a lot of countries.

I just wish I could do this the old-fashioned way as I always have with Stock app.
Xe Currency might be an awesome app but their privacy policy sucks. And it's a pain to install a third-party app for such a simple task

It's not going to be fixed unless you bring it to Apple's attention, although they may ignore the bug report.

I don't think there's an Apple fix because the fault is with Yahoo Finance, the long-time data source for Apple's Stock apps and widgets. Yahoo Finance only provides quotes for a limited number of currency pairs for some reason...I betcha it is to save $$$ in some way.

While I'm speculating, I'm also going to guess that the OP is not using an Apple application to view forex quotes–High Sierra did not come with a Stocks utility or app–but either a Dashboard widget or some non-Apple software. In the first case, the Dashboard has been deprecated for a long time so there probably isn't a quick and easy solution unless OP knows how to view and edit iOS plists. If so, it might be possible to get iOS Stocks to switch data sources. Or maybe it's part of the app coding. Either way, programming skills are needed. In the second case, Apple Support most likely will refer OP to the developer.

Finally, there are a lot of ways to get ILS-RUB rates without using the Stocks app. Either a third-party app or a webpage shortcut on the Home screen will work because the data is readily available. It's just that Yahoo doesn't choose to publish it.

YMMV

I think you're correct, it must be on Yahoo side. I don't see any other reason except for this one. Except how does it manage to go through HS then?

Definitely speculating about me using a third-party stocks application on High Sierra. I haven't checked the Dashboard but ILSRUB is shown perfectly clear in the Stocks widget in HS Notification Center. You don't believe me then I can post screens no prob. I also checked another Mavericks machine's Dashboard just for kicks and the widget there showed no info at all. Zilch. Nothing. It might be some kind of bug though. Say, if I remove it now on HS and then try to add it again then it wouldn't work. Not going to risk it though.

It's not worth it to bother with anything else like shortcuts or third-party apps. It's not such a big thing to die for, just annoying and strange. While it works on HS it wouldn't on iOS15 and Monterey. As long as the default app is showing the rest of the values mentioned in the first post I'll live.

Edited: Some style and grammar. English is not my first language.
