It has been reported here that 3 phones purchased from Best Buy in the last couple weeks came with IOS 9.0 preinstalled. A friend bought a couple iPhones from Walmart 3 weeks ago and they also had 9.0, as well as another iPhone shipped from Apple a couple weeks ago. As a side note, he specifically requested a TSMC-chipped iPhone 6s+ "bros gold" 128GB, and that's what he received (this obviously goes against the oft-stated notion that there's no way of discerning the chip from an unopened box, but I digress).

Since IOS 9.0.2 is no longer being signed, I've been holding off getting a 6s until a new jailbreak is released (I'm guessing that won't be until after IOS 9.2 is released). However, if there's still a good chance of getting an iPhone with 9.0.2 or below from Apple (either in-store or online), I might pull the trigger. For those who have just gotten a iPhone from Apple, what IOS version did it come with?

I'm guessing you might be referring to some of my recent purchases, but just in case...

Bought Monday, received Tuesday... iOS 9.0. That was from Best Buy web. Bought three days prior, also BB web, also iOS 9.0. A week prior (10/22) in store BB, iOS 9.0. Those are the three in the past two weeks now for me.

There is no way to discern between them. He just got lucky he got what he wanted.

The best route would be to go to a non Apple Store to get your phone if you want a lower firmware.

I never understand people that wait until the last minute if they know they won't buy one without a jailbreak. That makes no sense. It's not like it has passed months from a jb and now you can afford it vs previous weeks. But I digress.

Yes, that was you! I'm curious how much time generally goes by between the boxing of the iPhones till the sale. Since the new iPhone was released on 9/25 (IOS 9.0.1 was released on 9/23 and IOS 9.0.2 on 9/30), it would appear there's quite a lag before phones start shipping with a newer IOS.

Hard to put an accurate timeline with it though, regions, manufacturing stock, sales.. the list of variables could go on lol.

In a word: BiteSMS.

In several words: No alternative has ever come close. Couria was only updated just the other day, and Columbia still hasn't. Also, some indespensible tweaks are still unavailable, most notably (in order of importance):

TetherMe
AskToCall
AllMail
User Agent Faker

So obviously I'm in no hurry and had already resigned to wait for a 9.1/9.2 jailbreak, until I read reports of iPhone still available with IOS 9.0. Since I waited a brutal 6 months for the iPhone 5 to be jailbroken (3 of those rocking an iPhone 4 with badly shattered screen), I'm stoked to see new jailbreaks being released so often, thanks to the Chinese teams working their magic lately. ;-)

I have a 5 and a 5s both on 7.1.2 for BiteSMS as well. My 6 is at 8.4 and 6s at 9.0.

If you can find which week the above phones were manufactured it would help you when you check in store.

I'm saying you should have gotten it right when a jb was announced jb and then worry later for the updates. If you wait for tweak updates you will never upgrade your hardware :)

Just for the sake of thoroughness...

I had to do a swap on the phone today.. the replacement is a brand new iPhone 6s (64GB Verizon) and it was on iOS 9.0 out of the box. This is from the Apple Store.

^^ in response to the two posts above (10 & 11), that's very encouraging!

I got the wife a 6s plus this week from Apple and it came with 9.02 and had mine replaced 2 days ago, it came with 9.0.

I bought my mom a iPhone 6s yesterday at the Market St AT&T store in SF. It came with IOS 9.1. I ordered one for myself online from AT&T; keeping fingers crossed. Worst case scenario I'll keep using my iPhone 5 with a badly shattered screen until a jailbreak is released for 9.1 /9.2, hopefully in the very near future. ;-)

FYI: Mom got a T-Mobile 128GB 6S plus from Albuquerque  store late December and it came with 9.0.

Got my iPhone 6s today; sadly it also came with 9.1.

The good news is I can pop my SIM card into the old iPhone 5 for emergency tethering.

And as a cosolation prize, both of our phones came with the coveted TSMC chip. ;-)

All this reminds me of when I bought my Surface Pro 3 a year ago in November. People discovered that the 128GB model came with one of two SSDs, one being slower then the other almost by half. The ones with the Samsung SSD were slower. The first model I bought had the Samsung SSD. I took it back to BestBuy and exchanged it and happened to get one with the much faster SSD. I could tell right away upon booting the computer that it was faster.

Not from Apple directly, but some of you may still find this useful:

Helsinki Gigantti Forum, 16GB black 5S, today afternoon, 9.1. (Ugh!)
Budapest Euronics, Kőbánya-Kispest, 21/12/2015, 8GB white 4S, 8.1.1. (Great!)
(Helsinki Gigantti Forum, 32GB gold iPad Pro, 06/01/2016, 9.1)
