iOS14 and Airpods Pro

I've noticed since updating to ios14 that when I am using my APP, each time I activate the screen on my phone the small notification that says "Airpods Pro connected." And I don't mean only when they initially connect. I mean each time I pick up my phone this reminder will show.
Is this intended? Is anyone else experiencing this?

APP are on the latest firmware.

I was about to write this on this forum. Glad to see I'm not alone haha! Probably it's a bug because it's kind of annoying to see every time you pick up your phone.

Yup, no concerned. Minorly annoyed but more assured that I am not the only one experiencing this.

It’s just to let you know that the auto-switching feature is ready & waiting for you to turn on media on that device.

Apple may just keep that notification there temporarily so people get used to this great feature & remove it in future when it’s not needed.

It’s not a bug and is intended to notify you that it’s the active device with the AirPods. It’s to do with the Auto-switching feature as mentioned above by @Ralfi and is not going anywhere unless enough people complain about it to Apple. Kinda like the super fast Gen 2 Touch ID implementation in 6s.

Regardless of why it’s there, I actually prefer it. So many times my APP disconnect from my phone for no apparent reason and I have no clue. This is a nice reminder that they’re still connected.

More annoying is I'm getting this notification every time I pick up my phone even if the phone is NOT the active device. It's telling me the Airpods are connected even as I am using them to listen to another device.

It means that anytime you play something or get a call on your iPhone, it’s gonna be the active device.

Thanks, I get that. I'm just having a hard time seeing the argument for this default behavior. In the 6 weeks or so I've had the airpods, I use them almost exclusively with my Mac. They otherwise stay on my desk in their charger. I never carry them with me. So getting the "connected" notifications every single time when I'm actively listening to something on my Mac, or pick up my phone half a house away from the airpods on my desk, or miles away from the airpods at home has become obnoxious and makes no sense to me.

Changing the "Connect to this iPhone" setting under the blutooth options from "Automatically" to "When Last Connected to This iPhone" seems to have solved the problem. Is there an equivalent setting for them on the Mac? I don't see it. I'd happily switch that to be the default active device. But I've usually been having to reconnect on the mac to take the airpods away from the phone.

That setting takes the annoyance away.

I believe the AirPods are primarily designed to be used with the iPhones and Watches or at least that’s how they think people use them and not with Macs. It explains why it typically prioritizes iPhones when there’s more than one device available.

Exactly. Was getting annoyed at having to swipe down to see if the AirPods were still connected.

Hello friends,
I’m seeing another strange behavior related to AirPods Pro on iOS 14.

Whenever my AirPods are connected to my iPhone 11 Pro with no music playing, I’m seeing this “AirPods Pro not playing” notification (see attached screenshot).
has anyone else seen this?
Is there a fix?
I mean, if music is not playing the notification just shouldn’t be there.

I'm getting really flaky behaviour with the AirPods Pro when it comes to connecting to my phone, if my laptop running Big Sur is nearby. They seem to take longer to connect to my 12 Mini, but if I'm on a Zoom call for example, I get the notification on my laptop that they're nearby and the connection seems to drop from my phone. Then I need to put them back in the case, open it near the phone and that seems to fix it. But not every time....

Is it just me? Or is it Big Sur or iOS or the AirPods or all of these things conspiring against me
