I'm really quite excited about this addition and as I drive circa 36,000miles a year I might even drop my tomtom.
Does any one know what happens with the app during phone calls?
Can you still play/stream music at the same time as running the app?
Thanks.

It turns the music down during instructions. Calls come through too

Is there anyway to stop calls coming through whilst using Maps, so as they do not stop the spoken turn by turn instructions coming through and the onscreen instructions been seen?

I asked this question on another post and someone mentioned about the do not disturb feature of iOS 6, but nobody had, had a chance to try it whilst driving and while receiving a call.

Maybe you shouldn't drop ypur Tomtom after all?

I suppose at worst you could divert all calls to your voice mail box before setting on your journey......

I haven't got a Tom tom to drop :D, reason been I don't need the use of a satnav all the time, but I do need the use of one some time, and the Maps app on my iPhone would mean that I would have the use of one when I needed it has I always have my iPhone with me :)

The on screen instructions still appear at the top of the screen during a phone call, and the voice instructions come thorough over the incoming voice call. Really very usable.

Turn on the new Do Not Disturb feature. It sends all incoming calls straight to voicemail.

On iOS 6 beta 4 on a 4S, during calls my navigation stops talking to me and instead dings a bell alerting me to a new instruction. Am I the only one?

Voice instructions over the voice call - not good, I hope it gets sorted, I'll hold on to my TomTom for now......

This is how Google Navigation (on Android) does it, and it's the same with MapQuest on iOS. It works quite well, actually. I love it. And btw, the person you're talking to doesn't hear the instructions - only you do.

If you're that worried about it, just decline the call...?

That sucks... I hope it actually speaks during a call like the others I mentioned above. Otherwise I'll just stick to MapQuest since it's free and I already have it...

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated. From the sounds of it, the Maps app seems well thought out if that's how it handles phone calls.

What happens if you double press the home button while on a call and go back to the maps app?

I drive thousands of miles and take many hands free calls each day. It would be good if I could take the call and the instructions just turned to prompts.

Siri talking out loud would be heard by the person on the other end of the line.

It's a smart smart phone, I have faith that voice commands will subside during calls.....,,
