iPad iOS8 iBooks not reopening current book after using another app

Since upgrading to iOS8 on my iPad 3, iBooks does not re-open the current book when I have gone away to another application and come back again. I cannot shut and reopen iBooks as my home button is not working at the moment. I am waiting until the 6th Gen iPad comes out before I take it in to get repaired.

Anyone else having this problem?
