Am I correct that while in my home or work, they Iphone 4 can use the wifi that is avalible as its data (downloading source)? If so does it use the WIFI for everything:email, txt, downloads, pandora, and other apps?

I am trying to figure out what data plan i need.

Yes, if within wifi range it will connect to known networks and use that for data.
Texts dont use wifi , that's seperate and dont count towards your monthly data usage.

Yes, the WiFi indicator on the top of the phone next to your carrier name.

it will auto connect to your home wifi given its a 'known' spot.

Instead of the '3G', 'E', or 'o' symbol next to your signal strength indicator(in the U.S., anyway) it will show a three-tiered fan symbol for your WiFi connection. If it doesn't display that, then you are not on WiFi.
