Apple offered those in the iPhone Apple Upgrade Program a chance to select a device and get pre-approval for the Citizens One loan so they could save time when the pre-order gate opened and using the Apple Store App.

Did you do that and how did it work?

Flawless!
Combination of pre-selection, pre approval (~36 hrs prior) and no more trips to the store to turn in last years iPhone.
Bonus: no credit check or inquiry as far as I can tell. YMMV

12:01:15 order an 8, 12:01:30 order an 8+
Nothing but a thumb print.
Back in bed 12:02am

Nice! Great to hear- thanks for replying. Here's hoping the X upgraders get the same opportunity for pre-approval.

Exactly my experience. I had to contact Tim Cook because I had switched my Sprint 7+ to Verizon back in November and it wasn't allowing me to complete the pre approval process. Fortunately executive relations stepped in and got it to work right before the cutoff. Other than that the speed of the preorder and having it delivered is awesome! My confirm email was received at 3:02am eastern.

Worked great it even gave me a shot to change my shipping and color preferences before I finalized it. But then the 8 is either better stocked or less demand so it is hard saying how well this will work come the X launch. I would say ensure all your details are exactly right the first time you go around because you may not have time to change them in the second go around.

So we essentially build the order for the exact device and then get pre-approval and the App holds that in your cart so when you return at 12:01:01 you hit the confirm or submit button and that's it?

More or less. Its not really in your cart but when the time to pre-order is up you basically get to "finish your order" and verify the details are correct and click submit.

on TMO, if you were already on the AIUP do you still have to go in stores or can you do it online?

I used my Tmo account (phone) to upgrade my Verizon account. Both offered shipping or pick-up. So to answer your question, you can do it online for existing iup tmo.

So from this it sounds like one was able to get pre-approval for AIUP ahead of pre-orders (AKA have not been on AIUP before) and pre-order as normal? I may have to do this on this go-around if I'll truly be able to get approved as a first-time AIUP customer prior to the 10/27 Pre-Order date... Can anyone confirm?

In a side-note: with the Equifax breach and the advice of freezing your credit report...I wonder if anybody will treat this differently.

Not sure how you got that impression, when the OP that was directly above and quoted stated it was offered to returning iUp program members.

I ferrociously inquired at apple all last week trying to get info for folks interested in enrolling if there was any mechanisum for preenrollment.
I heard no enough times that I gave up on that notion....

I believe that the pre-approval was for those who were currently enrolled. First time customers will have to wait till the pre-order day 10/27 to sign up.
