Amazon has more books but apple has the better app. Don't let her get used to using ibooks and you have a chance.

I have all kinds of Apple hardware, and am very pleased with it. I do not have an iPad or any device to read books and magazines. I still use the type that is actually printed on paper. (Give me a break, I am 60.) I really want to get the iPad 2, but my understanding is that reading an iPad outside is very difficult because of glare compared to a device such as the Kindle. Would someone please give me a little advice? Many thanks.

If you want to read outside at all get a kindle, hands down you cannot beat eink. No Glare and perfect readable with a light source.

Now if you want to read in Bed at night with no light source then the ipad will work fine I own both and there are situations where I will use both, but if you primarily want an e-reader get a kindle, and maybe an external light for reading at night. Even on the Ipad I use the kindle app.
