Given recent events, it now seems unlikely that Apple will update its entry-level iPad this year.

First and foremost, Apple lowered the price of the iPad 10 and stopped including a charger with the device in Europe this week, and there is a low chance that Apple would have proceeded with those changes if an iPad 11 was imminent.

Second, Apple's announcement of a new iPad mini in a standalone press release this week further suggests that the iPad 11 is not coming soon.

In his newsletter last month, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said "new, lower-end iPads" were likely to be unveiled at Apple's next event "in the coming weeks," alongside the first Macs with M4 chips. It is unclear if Apple is still planning to host a Mac-focused event later this month, but it seems that an iPad 11 will not be announced this month regardless.

Apple released the iPad 10 in October 2022, and it features a 10.9-inch display and an A14 Bionic chip. It is unclear when the iPad 11 will be released given these recent developments, but 2025 at the earliest seems like a safe bet at this point.

Instead of iPad and iPad Mini, why not group them under the name "iPad SE", which would be available in two sizes (like Air and Pro)?
So,
Current nameNew name (sizes)
iPad Pro → iPad Pro (11"/13")
iPad Air → iPad (11"/13")
iPad & iPad Mini → iPad SE (8"/11")

That actually makes good sense.
Move the iPad SE to a different update cycle like the iPhone SE (not a big change for the mini since it doesn't get updated that regularly anyway), and get rid of the Air moniker given that the iPad Pros weigh less.

Probably A16 (with 6GB RAM) in the first half of next year.
That would be shocking. I would expect Apple wants to implement some AI features on the new iPad, which may be why they would delay the iPad and release it with an A17, which is still in production.

Actually that'd be shocking... an entry level iPad with that. I'd be even surprised if they had more than 4GB ram. This is the same  who charge $200 for 8GB.

SE is a budget brand, and the iPads Air and Mini are not.
Someone gets it.

iPad 10th Gen is just the budget option and has nothing to do with mini.

mini is more like the gimped version of an iPad Air: Way better value than iPad 10th Gen., with most of the M2 Air’s features and specs.

But then mini is much smaller and so close in price to an actual Air that the increase in value has more opting for an Air.

Then you start considering the 13” Air. But it doesn’t have the amazing tandem OLED that the 11” iPad Pro has.

And so on.

-All iPads sit on a step of the iPad value/$ ladder, respectively, serving to sell you up to the more expensive model.

The difference in sizes between the different models is so much more than just bigger displays vs. smaller ones.

It’s how Apple gets you from agreeing to a lesser model to a more expensive one. And you’ll feel like you’re getting a great deal.

Never made sense that iPad mini gets better internals and is more expensive than the regular iPad. The majority of Apple’s product lines are a convoluted, unfocused mess indicative of a wealthy executive class who no longer see the forest for the trees, and now coast on the success of their company’s former glory. “Stay hungry; stay foolish.” Yeah, right. Pretty soon the cheapest iPhone (SE4) will have better internals than the cheapest iPad. The bean counters run Apple. The product guys have all but left the building.

For starting at €619 iPad mini should have Face ID. Doesn’t even have a power plug.

Anything’s possible. It sure would make it similar to the new iPad Mini, though. Usually the Mini gets to be superior to the base iPad much longer, but Apple Intelligence is motivating Apple to change up some of their usual patterns.

Agree. The lineup really needs a cleanup. The iPad line especially.

There is absolutely no zen about Apple products line.

Better yet, as some have echo'd, both iPad and iPhone SE should be rebranded. Essential, Education, Classic, Basic, or some variation thereof.

Anyway, it would make sense for iPad (11th generation) to launch alongside iPhone SE in March/April.

Right. So at what point do we start to question Gurman's reliability? Anyone who pays attention to Apple's product releases would be able to make the same predictions he makes. Are we okay with him frequently moving the goal posts of his predictions so he's always right?

Tim Cook is really sucking the life and any enjoyment out of Apple fans. Disappointment after disappointment.
I miss the hype and energy Steve brought to releases, software and hardware.
You can still implement that even with incremental updates.
But recently, even us Apple fanboys are having a hard time being excited anymore.
When Steve was around there was one iPhone and one iPad. That’s it. Now the lineups have like 5 different tiers. But I agree. So much excitement of those days will never be had again. It was a unique time.

Tim strikes again with useless products strictly for margins such as:
AirPods 4 without ANC
iPad Air
M3 MacBook Pro 14" 8 GB RAM
