The shortage of the 12.9 inch ipad is extremely irritating. All apple stores within 100 miles of me is showing that none of their brick and mortar stores will have it for at least 3 more weeks. Ordering the 12.9 cell version is showing over two weeks delivery and verizon is unable to purchase most 12.9 versions at all.

A week ago, my carrier and Apple Stores had most models in stock, with the exception of the 512 GB model. Now, it's limited everywhere in my area. I know my cell carrier receives shipments everyday, but they sell fast.

Not unusual for Apple to have inventory problems on new introduced hardware. Seems like they had plenty of the 10.5 units but lack enough 12.9 units to fill orders. Irritated or not, a wait will be required if you want the new 12.9.

First I fully agree with you... ITs interesting that when you FIRST get an opportunity to buy something and its announced , your ready to go... BUT Now, WEEKS later, and looking like more weeks and possibly A Month or more, the initial excitement purchase, at least for me, is GONE.... When they become available, Im not so sure Im going to jump on this purchase....

Well the excitement is not gone for me on my two 10.5 units. The ProMotion is still wonderful to use. I am on my home or filed iPad a good part of the day and I am still very happy. I returned the 12.9 when it first was introduced but returned it for the smaller unit. 12.9 too big for my needs.

The choice of purchase is always up to YOU!

I went into my local Apple Store today to exchange my 10.5 for a 12.9 wi-if model. I want to try the bigger one and see if I like it better. If not, I'll exchange it back for the 10.5. They had it in stock 256 GB.

Strongly suggest that you order right now and get it within two weeks perhaps less. Mine came 2 days earlier than expected cutting the delivery time.

Had to order mine directly off the Apple website a few weeks ago. When I got the Tracking info, it was coming directly from China. I went with the SG 512GB LTE and nobody had it in stock. Apple said 5-7 days and all the other sources gave me 2-3 weeks. So, went with Apple.

Shortly after buying the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, I wanted a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with True Tone — and I bet others felt the same. True Tone makes the iPad approximate paper and also makes it usable outdoors.

Despite pitching the larger iPad Pro as the ultimate in paper replacement, Apple never brought it to parity with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Who knows what's going on but the lagging shipping times may stem from pent up demand for True Tone on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro — and of course ProMotion is icing on the cake.

I don't know about how popular it is or isn't but it's the size that works best for my needs. I just wish they had them in stock so I could upgrade my current 12.9 gen 1. I called several stores in my area they are saying July 20th before they will have them in stock. Maybe there is a production problem that Apple is working out?

Yeah me too. I think it's been a lot more popular than the first generation and Apple underestimated it. I'm even beginning to notice people using 12.9s on the trains these days.
Yep. I think the iOS 11 announcement likely drove up demand to higher levels compared to the first model. Certainly not as high as demand for 10.5 but higher than expected for 12.9.

The 512GB is particularly scarce. Possible NAND flash at that density may have lower yields.

Argos in the UK has some of the IPP 12.9 in stock for delivery or collection this week but nothing for space grey. Stock however is very, very limited. Argos btw has plenty of AirPods on a regular basis I have noticed over the past month.

Apple always gives a higher shipping time. If it says two weeks you'll get it in a week. At least that's how it's always worked for me.
