u cannot exceed the specs that has been built for the ipad (3).
same as for the iphone, etc despite having the same port connections.

it is the same thing with an iphone connected to an ipad charger.

For me, it's not really about the specs, nor the price.

I was planning to look at the mini when it's in the stores, and to buy one if I like it.

That's still my plan.

A lot of people seem to think that the only people interested a mini will be people who can't afford a full ipad.

nothing could be more wrong.

I really want a smaller device! My wife has an iPad 2, and it's too big for me.

I don 't mind the iPad 2 display, and I think the mini will be fine - but i'm going to wait til I see it to judge.

Another thing is that I have hundreds of dollars worth of iOS apps. Do I want to buy them all over again for Android? No!

One of the apps that I'm about to buy is $99, and it's not even available for android.

I'm still debating between a refurbished iPad 3 and an iPad 4. I'm really wondering if there are any "hidden" advantages to the iPad 4.. like this charger, I'm not sure how it all works but if the iPad 4 does charge faster, I think that would be a great reason to tip me over into paying more.

ipad 3 will draw 12watts from the new 12watt charger, not 10, so faster charging

I've just had a chat with apple online and asked if the ipad 3 would charge any quicker with the 12watt charger.

I asked if it would draw 12 watts or just 10. He didn't know, then asked a 'Solutions engineer' for me who confirmed it will charge faster and therefore will draw 12watts on the ipad 3.

Can you please kindly ask chat if the 6 foot extension cord is included in the package?

I am waiting until I see some actual numbers before I purchase the 12w power adapter for my 3rd gen ipad. I have several 10w adapters I purchased already from owc (used they are very cheap) so unless the benefit is fairly measurable I will probably hold off for now.

If I needed a replacement or extra charger, however, I would buy these to "future proof" my setup.

Would it be ok to use with the iPad 1 and iPhone 4? I charge both with the 10W one.

NO. Don't count on it, compare price and included list:

Is the ipad mini going to come with this 12w charger ?

Apple isn't clear, but this site:

In case you were wondering, Apple also told us that the iPad mini would come with a 12W adapter as well, which means we could see much quicker charges for Apple’s smaller tablets in addition to the new Retina iPad.

It did when I posted, it's changed since then. I didn't just make it up, I looked to be sure before I commented.

This reminds me of something a 7 year old would say! HAHA I didn't mean to say you just made it up, I figured it either changed or it changed when it went from Gen 3 to Gen 4. ;)

It must've been recently. I checked after the store went back up following the announcement.

In the ipad mini what comes in the box on the apple site it shows a picture of the regular iPhone like charger not the big ipad charger ?

So the mini comes with a 5w iPhone-like charger. I wonder if the 12w would charge the mini really fast? It lists compatibility for it.

Max input of the iphone 4/4s/5 is at 1A so you cant charge any faster than that, even if you use an ipad 2.1A+ charger.

One hour

The new charger will charge devices approximately 17% faster, so depending how long does it take you to charge your device with 10W charger, you can figure it out for yourself how much faster it will charge with 12W. I will assume that the iPad 3 will charge approximately 1 hour quicker with 12W compared to 4.5 hours charge-time with 10W adapter. IMO that is not a significant difference but for some it might be, still it is much longer than charging iPad 2.
But what is important to me is that the iPad's mini battery is 16.3 Whrs, that means it will full charge in aprox. hour and half!

Highly considering picking up one of these today, sometimes it feels like it takes FOREVER to charge.

I read somewhere that Apple have stated that the 12w Charger is coming with the mini, of course the pic above says otherwise but we can wait and see I guess :)
