Ipad 2 3g+wifi question

I am thinking about getting a iPad 3g and i was wondering if you had to get 3g for it to use it and do you have to unlock it. can you use just wifi and then when you go on like vacation get 3g.

Yep. You can sign up for 3G whenever you want and just use WiFi in the meantime.
