I want to run ios 9 on my ipad 2 because of some apps not supported in 7.0.4.

does anyone know what would happen if an old iPad 2 on 7.0.2 installs the 8.4 update?

And then would it notify me to download 9?

I'm terribly confused because the signing stopped for 9, and 8 was a wreck... and I don't want to test out what happens if I update.

Thank you

i recently upgraded my ipad2 to 9. couldn't upgrade to 8 as it automatically provides you with the latest compatible available.

to be honest it's pretty slow. very slow infact. I'd take the hit of lack of software compatibility and stay on 7.0.4 if i were you. 6.x is ideal, but 7.x will do. any higher and it's noticeably is crap in performance on all levels.

Agreed with above. iOS 9 is such a dog on an iPad 2, it might as well not be listed as compatible. Any new versions of the app for iOS 9 would be so slow, you'd wish you stick with a few incompatible apps on a smoother OS.

TL;DR: I'd say stick with iOS 7.

Just a story...my bro-in-law's ipad2 is on 9.x and he hasn't complained to me. I'll probably see him at Thanksgiving and will try it out myself then.

As for me...I'm on 7.1.2 and I'm not budging. :)

I have an original iPad Mini, which shares most iPad 2 specs. I disabled most notifications and transparency. It runs iOS 9 fine, given its limited RAM memory, although I use it mostly as a PDF reading device.
