Nope, same Japan. You know, the one where the #1 selling smartphone launched two days after the big earthquake and nobody seemed to mind. Or the Optimus Pad, which launched on March 31st. Oh, and the Xperia Arc SO-01C, which launched on March 24th. This is the Japan I live in, the one where for most of the country it's business as usual. Not to make light of the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami, which is obviously tragic - I'm just saying that most companies have been launching products with minimal delays despite the events of the past month, whereas Apple clearly hasn't. Hence my comment about the iPad 2's delayed launch: IT'S ABOUT TIME.Maybe you are in another Japan from the one I live in that had the major earthquake/tsunami/mutliple nuclear meltdowns that meant everyones attention was somewhat distracted....

And the iPhone 4s already were selling like hotcakes, no?![]()

Japan historically having been at the forefront of mobile telephony, it was an odd sight not to see more iPhones around.
I would agree. Prior to the iPhone 4 there didn't appear to be many iPhone users in Tokyo. Since the release of the iPhone 4 that has changed. They're quite the ubiquitous must-have item in Tokyo these days.

Sorry but I am usually blissfully ignorant when products I have no interest in are launched, but especially in the last few weeks. Even more impressed with Apple's position now you mention these other companies.

You're now even more impressed with the unnecessary delay? Interesting.
And for the record, I don't particularly care about product launches, either. I simply did a thirty second google search to find those post-earthquake launches I posted to show that for Japanese companies, it's been business as usual since the quake (as far as launching new products goes). Apple's delay didn't benefit anyone other than themselves (limited availability as it was - they probably thought there was no need to stretch supplies even further) ... But if their thinly-disguised maneuvering gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, I suppose that's exactly what they intended.
