Anandtech.com runs benchmarks on iPad (Imagination Tech SGX535), iPad 2 (Imagination Tech SGX543MP2) and Motorola Xoom (Nvidia Tegra 2) GPU performance.

Even adjusting for higher resolution (~30% more pixels) of Motorola Xoom (Android v3.0 Honeycomb) tablet, the iPad 2 just kills it in raw GPU performance. Gaming is going to be great on this new Apple device...

Don't mention this over at the xoom forum. They'll get all riled up. I don't get it, I have seen some iPad fans who are loyal and all but Xoom guys...wow. Anyone who has something on the negative side when it comes to a xoom and talks about it gets torn a new bum hole over there.

Wow, with the xoom's price tag I figured it was justified in the processing. This is a huge surprise.

LOL all 100 of them... vs the millions of us iPad owners! I would consider the xoom a flop.. at least until it drops its price

Can never get a good discussion going on without being labeled a troll with Xoom users. Upset maybe cause of that 800+ price tag?

I'm going to have to agree. Anyone else read that article about Verizon averaging 2 Xoom sales per store? I took my Xoom back after 2 days of use. The Best Buy employee said "I'm not surprised"

Ouch. I really had high hopes

Was there anything better than the iPad 2 about it?

Wow I'm really surprised. I thought that the Xoom trounced the iPad hardware wise.

I must say, though, I like the Xoom's interface much better. After jumping onto iOS back with the first gen iPod Touch, (and having iPhones since the 3G) the iOS interface is getting really stale for me.

all of cnets speed tests put the xoom on top of the ipad 2.

I think apple should adopt the same UI its web site has.. use the transparent black overlays. that would give it a nice refresh.. or even better.. Apple needs to open a theme section in the app store and have user crated themes.

If you like Tron, the UI is similar.

That YouTube or videos thing, with the curved wall, was there a point to that? Looking at the videos of that, it looked like a "because we can" sort of thing to me. It made my inner ear hurt.

Allowing customization like that is against Apple's design code of conduct. All for one, and one for all :p

im totally trying this right now :D:D:D

Even before the A5 was released, as soon as the word got around it'd probably use the SGX543MP2 (the rumor has been around for a while), it was already pretty much known that the A5 would beat Tegra2 easily in graphics. The only question was by how much and whether the CPU performance would be any different. The answer: by a lot, no the CPUs seem pretty close, if not almost identical. I'll be interested to see specific FPU and multimedia performance test in the future.

im reading around right now, and someone put up a good point. the xoom has a higher resolution, so it uses more processing power to keep up that resolution. that explains a lot.

No it doesn't. That's about the same pixel count % difference from going to the iPad from the iPhone. It can be significant but the gap between the SGX543MP2 and the Tegra2 GPU is so big that it's not really that meaningful in this context. The iPad 2 has the fastest mobile GPU on sale right now by far.
