My iPad 2 has been jailbroken with jailbreakme for awhile now and I couldn't live without it. I don't understand a lot of the terminology, blobs, etc. So I'm trying to get a handle on how I can upgrade now to get the functionality of iOS 5 like iCloud and then keep the jailbreak or re-jailbreak with Absinthe. Any help out there? Thank you!

You do a normal restore/update to 5.0.1. Then you run Abstine to jailbreak. That is all.

Thank you so much for your reply. Just so I understand correctly, won't the upgrade to 5.0.1 wipe out my jailbreak tweaks and apps? Will they be saved into Cydia or something so when I re-jailbreak, they will still come back?

Sorry for the simplistic questions. This iPad is my son's who has special needs and I don't want to risk losing the IncarcerApp and LockDown capabilities.

You have to run an app from Cydia called Pkgbackup in order to backup all your Jailbroken apps. Then, once you've updated your iPad to 5.0.1, run Absinthe to Jailbreak it. Restore from backup (iTunes backup, not Pkgbackup). Now go into Cydia and install Pkgbackup again. Restore your backup from within Pkgbackup and you should be set.
