I'm a newbie on here but not new to Apple products. I queued and got the iPad 2 in London yesterday and when I got it home and turned it on I found that the device had been named and it had content already on it. In Settings/General I have a Profile option that is called iOS Factory Apps. Has anyone else had their iPad shipped without it being reset and wiped?

Are you sure you got a sealed unused product?

It sure was sealed. It has an app on it called "What's My Bearing?" Version 1.0v4 with additional information Copyright 2010 Apple, inc. SWE Factory Support Team with CONFIDENTIAL on it. It's basically a compass app but on the iPad, the gui is nothing like the iPhone compass app. It has a cartoon bear, hence "Whats My Bearing?", and a compass over the top of it.

I'm wondering if you got a Developer's unit??

Very odd indeed!!!

Sounds like some employee opened, tested it out and repackaged it. I'd return it in it's present state and insist on seal retail box.

Well, when I plug it in to iTunes it say's that the iPad is synced with another iTunes Library. The selection of photos on there and some of the keyboard settings like having Chinese (Pinyin) simplified & Chinese (Handwriting) simplified suggest that someone in the factory decided to trial before buying!

That is totally bizarre! I would definitely try and exchange it, assuming they have the same model in stock.

try to research this a couple of days, before giving them the serial code, because in the rare case, very rare indeed, you have a prototype, or a demo machine it could be worth something in the wild, or not. :)

but ultimately, and pretty soon, you need to get it replaced, and make a fuss about it, because it's not really nice a brand new ipad to say it's been synced with another lib...how bizzare...

It may be a 'tested' unit that they missed erasing. It wouldn't surprise me if they pull a few at random out of each batch to randomly test that it functions properly.

Make a YouTube video. A lot of people would love to see this in action. I would even guess this might fetch some extra cash on eBay.

It may be coordinates to some rare diamonds..FOLLOW THE "BEARING!" I would call apple and ask them about their knowledge of that app to see what kind of feedback they give you. I surely wouldn't rename it or anything just yet.

Or just explain what you have and ask for another one.

Right, here are some images, at last. Sorry been a bit pre-occupied today :)
