Why the hell is Pedo Bear in the compass app?!?!?!?!
The profile thing is pretty interesting, no one else has that. This has to be an inside testing FW.
Very interesting..

Nothing special here.
Just looked up the profiles, nothing new. Didn't know about that though.

It seems to be a used iPad. Although you say the thing marked confidential, take a screen capture of that?
EDIT: Nevermind, saw the confidential picture thing. Nothing special here but that compass app, that in itself is very weird, being that it has Pedobear on it...

I just saw that! Completely random, why the hell did they use that?

Apple seems to like to play on words on their engineering programs. If any of you guys ever saw the original iPhone's prototype/engineering apps, you know that they had an icon of a Cheerios cereal box for the "serial number" app. This could be the internal engineers playing on the word "bearing" in "what's my bearing" app that the OP is showing.

Well, if word gets out (and it will) about Apple using the Pedobear graphic for ANYTHING I guarantee it will be changed ASAP.

That's awesome that the compass app uses it. Pedo bear uses the iPad to find children! Lock up your kids parents!

The cynic of me wants to say this is fake, but unless you're a developer who made the app then it must be real.

There's a very simple explanation for this.

Your iPad was one of the iPads taken off the production line for quality control purposes. The inspector loaded a profile and some apps and files to conduct their tests. Then, once they'd finished, they forgot to reset it to default before returning it to the line.

All very boring, I'm afraid.

Also...

That's kind of creepy.

Not really. From the wiki article quoted:

"The bear character originates from the popular bulletin board system (BBS) website 2channel in Japan, where it was introduced as クマー (Kumā), which is an interjection of the word くま (Kuma) meaning bear in Japanese. In spite of the impression of Pedobear in Europe and the United States, Kumā is not associated with any sexual thing such as pedophilia."

Again, nothing to see here...

Well, thats sort of what I suggested in the original post but enough people have queried about it. I have had many Apple products and deal with hundreds every year through work and I have never come across anything like this before.

This sort of thing is standard practice in manufacturing environments everywhere. It's easy for the operator to be distracted and neglect to return the iPad to its original state. It's probably a very rare occurrence, though.

That does make sense. The bear app is probably for testing if the gps is working properly.
