iPad 2 screen predictions, set yours in.

Keeps the same resolution at the first one, but it gets the iPhone 4 glass treatment with how the screen is applied to the glass. This will enhance the colors but not increase pixel density and hopefully consume less battery since less brightness is needed.

My guess is 1024x768 but with some improvements.

The screen will probably be laminated to the glass like on the iPhone 4, it might have better sunlight readability.

iPad 3 will get the 2048x1536 screen.

Screen will be same size. Brighter, better contrast. Slightly higher PPI.

16, 32, 64 WiFi + 3G

Will be "faster"

Front and back cameras, same as iPhone.

SD card slot.

Shipping in April.

1024 x 768

LED Backlight (not edge: better letter boxing)

Display-integrated CCD for much-improved FaceTime.

P-P-Powerbook

My 2cents

- Will increase in size and use a proper 1920X1080 display.
- Safari will be snappier.
- Will use the new Dual core G5 like the new Powerbooks.

My money is on this

Same resolution as iPad1.
Better anti-glare / sunlight readability
Thinner

That's it.

People who EXPECT a "Retina" resolution display are living under a rock.

I expect the iPad 2 in regard to the iPad 1 as the iPhone 3Gs is to the iPhone 3G. Faster cpu/ram/gpu, same screen, but no real insane improvements.

iPad 2 is not to make all early adapters to buy the next gen, but to get a bigger market share from people who first wanted to be sure that tablets would be worth it.

iPad 3 will be more like the iPhone 4 is in regard to the 3Gs. Newer design, better screen.

If they keep the same resolution, they had better drop the price by $50 or $100.

If they add a retina display, they can keep the same price.

The new iPad won't get a resolution bump (particularly 300+ppi display fancily called "retina") because Apple won't keep on changing resolutions with every release. They've invested in 1024X768 resolution and won't ditch it within a year. They'll have it for 2nd gen and depending on the competitors they'll update it in the 3rd revision.

What may happen-

ARM Cortex A9 1.2GHz (dual-core)
Imagination PowerVR SGX543 (dual-core)
512MB RAM
Front (VGA) and rear facing (0.7MP or 1MP) cameras for video calling (FaceTime)
Antiglare 1024X768 screen

My prediction is if the iPad 2 does not have the retina display, then some of the upcoming Android (Honeycomb) tablets may have the best displays and better spec's within the next 30-60 days. I hope it does get the Retina, but it does not seem likely now, looks like Apple may let Android make big advances in the percentage of tablets sold this year.

(Edit: 30-60 day the LG G-Slate scheduled release is Mar. 23)

Screen : 1024x768 & better against smudges .
CPU : Dual-core Cortex A9 @ 1.2GHZ
GPU : SGX543MP2
RAM : 512MB RAM
Dual cameras, better speakers,thinner

Pretty much this, but maybe single core and 1 GB RAM.
Those expecting Retina Display should get their heads checked.

Retina display on iPad is too good to be true right now, in my opinion. (I would love to be wrong.)

I'll be satisfied with a faster CPU and a RAM boost (1GB?) Cameras sound nice but I don't personally need them.

I think we'll see two levels of iPad 2.

iPad 2 Good: 1024 x 768 screen (approximately same price as now)

iPad 2 Great: 2048 x 1536 screen (significantly higher price. +$200)

iPad 1: Still on sale for at least a few months at a slightly lower price.
(-$75?)

To those raising the issue that Apple doesn't want to change the screen resolution because they have standardized on 1024x768, recall that iOS is resolution independent. This means it works sort of like your printer. You can print something in draft mode or you can print in super fine mode. You get the same result either way, but one is sharper. The same with iOS. As you change screen resolutions the layouts are the same, but there is the possibility of making things sharper and crisper.

This would make for a ton of iPad models, especially if they do announce a CDMA iPad as well.

2 screen variations

times 3 network variations (WiFi-only, WiFi+GSM, WiFi+CDMA)

times 2 or 3 storage variations (I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of one, e.g. the next iPad has 32/64 only)

=between 12 and 18 models of iPad! (two to three times as many as are available now)

And if they keep selling all the existing ones, that could mean 24 models on sale for a while, although they might discontinue all but one storage level, like they've been doing when new iPhones & iPod touches come out.
