If the iPad 2 actually does get an SD card slot, does anybody think it could be used for actual storage of media (music, video) that can be played by the native iPod and Video players? Or will this just be for photos?

I'm thinking only the latter, since that was the limitation of the camera kit, but what do others think?

iPhoto + iMovie on iPad (with enhanced editing stuff over the iphone) = SD card awesome.

Also maybe for documents (word, excel, PDF, etc...) If I can organize my hundreds of PDF research papers into folders and stuff on an SD card and have them fed into the iPad that way, maybe it would be good?

Personally I have been hoping for something like a universal filebox so that files are not held hostage by any single app.

It sounds plausible but I wonder if that could be a security nightmare. I suspect Apple'll try to keep files as separated from each app as possible

Why would it be a security issue? If the apps already have access to say a photo library, why would it be a problem if another app you've installed accesses that photo library? Presumably Apple already screens apps for inappropriate functions. Not that Microsoft is the paragon of sound design, but the new Microsoft Phone OS does this to a certain extent. Data should not be determing how you access it, YOU should be determining how you access it.
