Clearly you missed my point. My point was that "tablets" running a "full blown OS" even at the same price point as the iPad still aren't selling because they stink. Plain and simple. I don't buy HP, Dell, etc. All my personal computers are Apple.

No, I knew exactly what you meant. I just decide to vent frustrations with HP. And I just negotiated a deal with my office to get a lap top allowance added to my check. When SB comes out on the pros, I am jumping. Then they can take their old Tosuckba and.. well I'll be nice. I'll still need to run Windows, but computer wise I'll never buy anything other than an Apple again.

Look at the duo convertible. Notice the big selling point is "Flash Capable". Windows 7 Home Premium on an Atom CPU with 2 gigs of ram. Craptacular. So it sucks a lap top too.

"Yeah, so, we decided that we didn't like the iPad! and instead of thinking about our customers, we're making the new one with OS 10.7 Lion! It's slow, and it doesn't support your old apps or good touch input, it's not meant for a device as small as this, and it's not going to add anything really big, but whatever! Also, I am secretly a robot."

I think real mac touchscreen tablets/Full PC's might be coming with Lion. Who Could say? It is :apple: after all.

While possible, didn't Jobs recently state that it is too tiring to use touch screens for laptops and desktops and that all touch interfaces going forward would be implemented on the Magic Trackpad / Magic Mouse / Keyboard / etc?

And to be honest, he is right. A buddy of mine has one of those touchsmart HP all-in-ones and other than using touch for some basic things and/or to show off how "cool it is", it goes almost completely unused.

Well havent u ever heard of Windows 7 running on tablets and why not Mac os X on a new fast processor, you can always adjust or port software to another peice of hardware cant u , and why wouldnt you want that power of a mac os under your fingertips, i heard that the Lion os has the power of iOs on a mac yes the possibilities of it happening is next to never but it would be nice to have

Why wouldnt it be , you would have full mac experience on a iPad

While Windows 7 is Touch capable, doesnt mean it's easy to use on a Touchscreen, especially on a 10 inch tablet. Some of the smaller buttons are rather awkward to use with a finger.

To qoute Ashens, my fingers are thick and chunky, for strangling Badgers.

Windows 7 is again being optimized for the new range of Win 7 Tablets about to be released.

First, I agree with all of the sentiments in this forum.

However, it was not always the case!

I think that anything larger than an iPhone that runs the iPhone OS is fairly useless. Just make a MacTablet that can have a full size (hence the screen) virtual keyboard, and then have it run OS X.

The big question for me is iPhone OS or true OS X? If it's OS X SL, I'll buy it day 1. If it's the iPhone OS, I may have to reconsider. I already have an iPhone.
The leaked OS (which I think was real) seemed an awful lot like a big clunky Touch.

In which case I'm afraid I'm not interested. There's no way I'd spend a grand on something like this unless it was a laptop replacement, and if it is I need it to run Photoshop (not well, but run it).

The software for this has to be either OSX Snow leopard or something that is custom build from the iPhone/iPod touch. Can you imagine what kind of user interface you would have on a device this large and your still using the iPhone software? Its going to suck!

If this device will be running OS 10.6, with about a 10" touchscreen, I'll buy one. I have no use for a suped-up iPod Touch, but I'd spend my money in a hot minute for a touchscreen Netbook/Macbook.

The tablet isn't going to be running the iPhone OS build. That's for sure. iPhone OS is built on the core of OS X, it's just a custom slimmed down build of it. Apple will develop a custom build of OSX 10.6 for the tablet, the Dock Expose makes a nice way of using the fingers to navigate, including the Expose/Dashboard to act as the Home Screen. There has to be a Finder for the Tablet, something that iPhone still lacks. The tablet should be more multitasking capable than the iPhone OS.

as much as i love my ipad and the ipads operating system id love to see a tablet with some flavor of linux on it. just cause im that kind of geek.
I'm hearing about these new things called "Android" and "honeycomb" that people seem to think have some connection to linux, for some obscure reason. It's a mystery. ;)

So has Dell, HP, Fujitsu, IBM/Lenovo, etc., etc. Funny how all these major PC companies have been selling some sort of tablet/notebook and yet interest has still remained extremely low. Why? A full blown OS is not tablet friendly.

For 4 1/2 years before I bought my MBP, I owned a convertible Tablet PC. Thought I would use it in tablet mode on occasion, warranting the extra cost. I even bought one of the rare ones with a higher res screen that wasn't also 14" in size, too big for the form factor.

It turned out I nearly always used it in laptop mode. With keyboard. Except, occasionally, to read PDF magazines on it.

As a full Windows computer too, the battery life was only around 2 hours.

However, those convertible tablet PCs, where the screen rotates to lay flat when you want a tablet, would be perfect for this.
