There is definitely a huge advantage to reading PDFs with the ipad 3 (ASSUMING the PDFs are of a high enough quality)

The book is Thinking with Type, a great read though, probably even greater on the new iPad
So, to conclude, the new iPad is generally better for reading scanned books, and I think it is definitely worth spending a little more money on, then getting a previous gen. Ok guys, thank you for all of the answers and I will definitely get back to you when I get the iPad, for my final thoughts.

Your just going to have to compare the two yourself. You can't rely on anyone here, as they are all biased do to their expenditures.
But I would imagine that forward is usually an improvement.
As for the NEw iPad being a huge improvement. With scanned material-no.
