The new iPad has a far superior screen to the iPad 2, however it is by no means "retina". Perhaps I have better than average close-range eyesight, but I still see significant aliasing on text of all sizes, especially italics. The difference between my 4th gen iPod touch and new iPad is very noticeable. I am not trying to be an Apple or iPad basher here -- I love my new iPad. But its screen is just good, not magical. Better than iPad 2, but still not nearly as good as the true "retina" display of an iPhone 4 or 4th gen iPod touch.

I think that maybe Apple stopped all anti-aliasing of text, thinking the distance and resolution would solve any problems -- while less fuzzy, the text is more jagged and is not too smooth. Again, this is very apparent in v's, w's, and italics.

I see your point. I agree there's the difference, but I believe weight, thickness and teperature are more important qualities for most consumers. For me they sacrifised too much for the Retina display.
But that's just my opinion. People are different and have different needs.

Which explains why they only sold 3 million the first weekend.

Why the hell can't people just speak for themselves rather than trying to justify their own choices by projecting them on others?

make sure

make sure you are using an app and website that is optimized for it, most aren't yet.

Just picked up a new 32 gb iPad w the retina display. I don't see much of a difference w the screen when I compare it w my iPad too,

If you can't notice the difference between the Retina display and the old display than what can I say to you!!! This is ridiculous!! The Retina display is clearly and easily one of the best display I've ever sen mate! C'mooon!
