iPad 2 sounds stupid... What do you think they are going to call it...

Either "iPad 2" or just "iPad". They don't give the iPod touch a new name every year, it's just "The new iPod touch".

Lol. These are just how the 'competitors' sound, and are a clue as to why they don't cut it.

'iPad I don't care about the name just give me a feature set, a price and a release date'

Apple's gonna possibly call it The New iPad, but in the end everyone knows it's a second gen device and it would be colloquially called iPad 2

I don't think so. I expect them to keep one model of the original around at $399, so we would need a new name.

For the same reason, that's why iPod Touches, Macbooks, Macbook Pros, Macbook Airs, Mac Minis, Apple TV all have new names, right? By your logic, they MUST name iPad something new.

Did Apple ever market two different versions of those devices at the same time? And by your logic, they're all just the iPhone?

As stated, it will just be called iPad. Many will refer to it as iPad 2 or iPad 2g. You may see it in their returns as iPad current generation, but otherwise it won't be called anything different. Also as stated, if they do offer the original model as an entry model, they will not differentiate them by giving them a different name just as they did with the iPod touch 3g when the 8th model was the previous version at a cheaper price.
