Hi all,

I just use purchased the iPad 2017. I couldn't afford the Pro sadly.

I want to use it mainly for drawing and calligraphy. I want to use the app procreate.

I know the apple pencil sadly isn't compatible with this iPad, and I doubt it ever will be, so I am trying to find a good stylus I can use.

Main things I need are palm rejection and pressure sensitivity.

I have found the FiftyThree and that looks good but it doesn't look very precise.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Short answer: For what you want to use it for, there is no Stylus out there that will give you a satisfactory result - particularly for calligraphy.

Mofunk is correct - a 9.7" Pro (used or refurb) will serve your end goal MUCH better than anything the 2017 iPad can do with any stylus that's out there.

I have, on other occasions, recommended the Pencil by 53 for drawing or the Wacom Sketch (or the Fineline) for writing. Make no mistake though - these are for people who want to mess around with writing and drawing and don't mind it not being accurate (and already have an iPad and don't want to buy a new one). ALL Non-Pro Stylus will drive you INSANE trying to be accurate for something like calligraphy. NONE of these offer the kind of precision and accuracy you're looking for - take it from someone who spent a small fortune on iPad stylii before the Apple Pencil came out.

So if your casual, and only intend to use a stylus less than 10% of the time, then by all means go for one of the non-Pro Pencils. HOWEVER... if you're MAIN INTENT is to use a stylus... return the iPad and get a refurb or used 9.7" Pro.
