I just returned my 10.5 iPad Pro and got the regular iPad 2017. It's pretty nice for what I do but I noticed one thing.

When holding it in portrait mode (home button on bottom) I can feel a little bit of warmth on the back side in the bottom right corner where my hand rest. It's not hot by any means, but definitely a bit warm where I can notice it.

I don't remember the iPad Pro doing this...but I did just do a restore and ALL the old Apps are loading on this new iPad so it's probably doing a lot of work. Can anyone let me know if this is normal on the new iPad 2017.

Thanks!

UPDATE - Its now cool to the touch. I guess I'd like to rephrase my question and ask when it gets hot is it normal to get hot in the area of the attached picture?

I can't answer your question as I don't have a 2017 but an air 2, but I will ask how are you liking the 2017 regular iPad after experiencing the 10.5 pro? What iPad did you have prior to the 10.5 pro/2017 regular?

How long did you have it for? It should only take a few hours to index. The first initial hours will be the warmest. After sitting overnight for the first day it should be just fine. I would suggest a fresh install, especially if your upgrading from an older device. I don't mind the extra work of starting fresh.

It can get warm during the Initialization process as mentioned, but any type of of intensive applications can cause the iPad also to get warm as well. Sometimes creative applications or gaming are the most common.

I have the same model and it never gets warm. I use it extensively for hours watching YouTube, Netflix, browsing etc and never have I experienced any such problem.
And all the browsing is on portrait mode.
