I have a Kindle Fire and it's an excellent device for what it is..which is a reader. Smaller and lighter than an iPad, and while you can get the Kindle app on the iPad, it isn't the same experience. If you want to read, then get a Fire. If you want an all around experience you should get the iPad. I have both and they are much different devices I think.

For what it is worth, I absolutely love my Kindle Fire.

If you want to read buy a regular kindle or nook. If you want a good tablet buy an iPad. If you want to settle for a choppy, sluggish UI with stretched phone apps buy a fire. I am sorry but the kindle fire is not more than a cheap Chinese tablet with an Amazon content wrapper.

Good to know, thanks! Yea for what I plan on doing the Kindle Fire seems more suited than the iPad.

Also, I actually just bought a Kindle Fire, so it should be here Wednesday. $180 refurbished through Amazon. So not a bad deal at all.

If you get the fire make sure to get opera mobile. The Silk browser is a log of turd. Opera is pretty quick on the Fire...makes it very usable.

If you know how to sideload apps, try to get Dolphin Browser HD and get that on there. I haven't played with the Opera browser, but Dolphin pretty much loads instantly. It isn't on the Amazon Appstore, at least not for the Fire. But it works perfectly.

Sorry to throw another device in the mix, but if you're going to root anyway I believe the Nook Tablet is on sale for $200 by B&N on eBay this week and CM7 just came out per xda developers. Worth considering as the hardware is superior IMO to the Fire.

Non rooted I won't pretend the app selection's the same since sideloading was disabled but you *can* get stock Dolphin now which certainly filled a big hole and they just added Cut The Rope to their games...so slowly improving.

Eta - whoops, seems you already made a purchase! Well, keep it in mind if the Fire's not as good as expected.
