Agreed. For about a week I tried out a 1 then a 2 before opting for the 3, and the battery lifespan is really good. I know its not a close comparison, but my brand new dell laptop at work gets like 2.5 hours of time, and even with pretty heavy daily usage streaming movies at 85% of the brightness level I'm getting between 9-11 hours of usage time - pretty amazing.

Speaking of the battery, do you people constantly "top-it-off" and frequently charge the battery, or do you just drain it down to like 10% and then fully charge all the way back up in a single cycle?

I just charge it whenever I feel like it. It doesn't matter as long as you calibrate once every month or 2.

I know that strain on the GPU creates a lot of heat. I'm referring to the guy's comment that said that increasing the brightness has a drastic effect on temperature, which I find odd, as LEDs don't exactly get that hot.
I am not an expert but I would say that the brightness controls might tie into the LCD. Maybe the same controller that handles the LCD also handles the brightness and the extra "load" of running a graphic intensive LCD and the highest setting of back light causes extra heat.

It doesnt really matter what I use, it only matters that I am using the same things as with my previous ipad which is what I am comparing to...:)

Wow, so thanks for sharing that with us. The entire forum is happy for you! Its just a shame that we derive not one single scrap of data from your post that any of the rest of us can benefit from but as long as you're happy its all ok. Here, have a smiley face :)

In fact have two more as its Easter :) :)

It seems that although it takes very long to charge (6-6.15 hours) the ipad 3 battery is awesome and considerably better than my ipad 2. I am 100% certain of this. With the same use I think I am getting around 1.5-2 hours more use. I have only charged it 4 times, since last Friday I bought it. Just an observation...

I would like to hear your opinion on this issue...

It could be that your iPad 2's battery after a year of use might not have been performing as well on day one. I say this only because the facts are that for same use, the iPad 3 has a shorter battery life and longer charging than the iPad 2. This isn't just me making an empirical observation. This is physics.

The operative words are "same use". A lot of posts have been saying they get the same or better battery life in the iPad 3. But it's almost always because they are running the brightness lower on the 3.

I totally agree with increased standby time on the iPad 3. That makes perfect sense (physics) given the battery size.

I'm getting terrific battery life. Normally keep my screen at 50%, not because I worry about battery, but because I read a lot on it and it's easier on the eyes.

I haven't charged my iPad since last Sunday. I read on it a couple of hours a day. Usually do some gaming and Twitter/Facebook checking when I get home. Last night I was still at 25%.

I'm not sure about my battery yet, I ran it down last night (first day) to dead and then charged it to about 45% and then used it again and it got decently warm on 100% brightness. Nothing like my laptop though. I fully charged it over night. It seems to go down rather quickly compared to my iPad 1 but I'm only just now keeping track of it.

Also, I know this will be kind of naive but how do you calibrate it?

And thank YOU for your terrible attitude and facetious response. Your participation is even less appreciated.

My friend, its not that I don't want to answer you, it is just irrelevant to the point I wanted to make. I am sorry you perceived it in such a way...

As a matter of fact, I play angry birds, surf, connect to my Mac using splashtop, receive emails and all those common things...

Yes that could be true!
