Screw a 7" iPad, Jobs was right. I just got a Kindle Fire, and the difference in usability of the 7" screen is huge.

There's a good point made here: 7 inch android tablets suck mostly because they are widescreen, a 7.35 (or 7.85) 4:3 screen with a 1024 x 768 wouldn't be that bad, especially if it will have the same battery life and lower price.

I really hope 0.7mm is a typo, and is supposed to read 0.7 cm. Bitching over 0.7mm is so anal that i dont think even Jobs himself could have matched it.

If they made a 7" iPad with the same basics specs like CPU and RAM, I would probably buy one.

I would be inclined to, too. However, i would prefer if they kept the speccs of the current ipad and repacked it into the smaller format, to keep price down. 7", starting at 349 (16gb) --- (299 seems like hoping for too much, even though it would still offer a nice margin for Apple). Thank you. Heck, i'd even take the ipad1 speccs, but i doubt that makes a big difference for Apple, profit wise.

4:3 isnt really optimal either, but 16:9 would be rubbish. Anyway, in my scenario above they would - for obvious reasons - stick with the current ipad resolution (its there, it works). Thus, they would stick with 4:3...

Could of course be wild and go for 3:2, making it a big iphone (running iphone apps). But im not sure if that is a bright strategy, and certainly doesnt feel like the Apple thing to do. And, i guess, it would mean running 960x640 resolution, which for obvious reasons would be a tad-bit low (once again, not very Apple like).

Let's hope Apple can avoid the need for a dual light bar. It's a compromise I'm sure they'd rather not live with. A thicker iPad would be a step in the wrong direction.

Thicker yes, and do you understand how thick .7 mm is? Really?
Let me put it in 'American Units' for you 0.028 inches, 3% of an inch?

1920 x 1280, doubling the resolution of the iPhone in both x and y dimensions. No rewrite required immediately for existing apps, and something approaching retina resolutions for a ~7" screen.

0.7 mm, you know how tiny that is? That is less than 0.028 inches!!!!

Unless they could keep the same resolution but increase the ppi. Probably not tho.

Resolution is not really the issue. The problem is at if you do this then everything shrinks. Not only do you have to deal with smaller text, but also smaller buttons and other interface elements. Apps could become difficult to use as a result.

Thicker iPad? That doesn't sound like Apple...

But if it is nescessary, let it be. I Just hope, it won't be a lot heavier

Less than 10 grams Is My guess, just a 0.7 mm of plastic surrounding the iPad and the extra light bar

It IS 0.7 mm, not 7 mm.

"The sources revealed that the major differences of the new tablet PCs compared to the previous model are their size, specifications and technologies."

Wow. Some analysis from those sources!!

Because if the size, specifications and technologies were the same -- we'd have the iPad 2!!

Not only that, LOL," it is widely believed that Apple is working on an ipad 3" imagine that!

What will they think of next? An ipad 4, iphone 5 a new iMac, MBP's, TV

There I just analyzed things, jeez!

You do realize they're only increasing it by 0.7mm?
Of course. I'm not talking about the particular width. I'm talking about Apple's perfectionism and fussiness over details. If we still had Steve Jobs around would you want to be the person to tell him it would be slightly thicker, not thinner than the previous model, no matter what the "delta" was?

Well, after read his book, he was initially against having an App Store & having iPods work with Windows PC's. But he was convinced into supporting both of those & look how well that turned out. ;)

So, if I were one those execs or engineers working on the project, yes I would tell him. If it means being able to stick in a super high-res screen at a wicked price that the competition won't match for awhile & that will provide an amazing reading experience, then it would be worth it.

But I'm not one of those guys. I'm just an average Joe.

Not quite true. In a double resolution screen (both ways), you have 4 pixels where you once had 1. You could light up those 4 pixels the same way as you did the original 1 and you'll have the exact same picture.

On the other hand, you could redraw your UI elements to take advantage of the new resolution. That way, everything would be the same size, just sharper.

The most shocking discovery of all is that Apple seem to actively be working on an iPad 2 successor right now that is called iPad 3! I definitely thought the iPad project was dropped due to them selling so bad! What would we be without those analysts!

What's selling bad? iPad's?!!! what?! SINCE WHEN!!

Mmm...The Great Stevaroni was more concerned about the total user experience than any one thing. In the case of screen brightness; that couldn't suffer for .7mm, so it's a net-gain user experience. If Steve wanted slim-at-all-costs, then the battery could be made thinner and the user would have a shorter time between charge.

Every decision affects something.

Apple does not "give" projects upstream

Of course Apple is nearing production of the iPad 3, and I can believe it will get the high-resolution display. But I am sure Apple is NOT doing this:

Apple is currently giving two tablet PC projects codenamed J1 and J2 to its upstream partners for development.

Apple keeps all development in-house and does not let "upstream partners" have a go at 1 or 2 light bars, or decide on the thickness of the iPad.
