up the storage and cameras too!! please. with so many 1gb apps and so much music i'd really like more storage 128gb on the high end, the same 8mp camera thats on the phone with a flash and better FaceTime camera!! my ultimate dream would be phone and text service. just like an iPhone for those of us who carry a bag everywhere and a bluetooth.

The more I think about it, the more I am a bit concerned with performance if it indeed has a retina display but not a powerful enough GPU to handle it very well.

Will an A5 get the job done gracefully? Judging from the timeframe on production and what I've heard about the A6, it seems like there is a possibility the iPad 3 will debut before the A6 is ready. In that case, I think i'll wait and see how the device performs. If it indeed turns out to have an A5 which noticeably struggles handling a retina display of that size, then I may just wait for the iPad 4.

will it be slow and laggy as the first? will web browsing crash constantly will google search make another exclusive ipad feature that you don't want and wish never was made.

as more and more internet developers make ipad exclusive tablet features the enjoyment and usability gets more and more frustrating and gaudy.

the hyper uber excitement around tablets is making me sick as a pre-order of the original ipad; i have only found as time goes own i get more and more disappointed maybe the novelty is wearing off maybe i just hate computers and cars now.

hint internet developers stop with tablet exclusive viewing it sucks you don't know what your doing just flaying in the dark. its just crapy flash but not flash. yes and flash websites suck too. maybe i should go buy a book.

Maybe you should go buy an ipad? I've no idea what device you've been using, but i'm on a first gen iPad, no lag, no browser crashes does everything i bought it to do. Love it, may upgrade to iPad 3, but no major reason to.

1gb apps?? Where?! With icloud and itunes match, we will need smaller hard drives moving forward, not larger. 32 gigs for music, 32 gigs for apps is plenty. This device isn,t a camera, want proper optics or slr quality, go buy an slr. I'm on a 64gig ipad 1 (wifi only) not even touching the sides of it's storage capacity and have over twenty five thousand music tracks on here. What average user could possibly need more than that?

Yes, of course apple will release a device which is outperformed by it's predecessors. Of course no one at apple has thought this through, or spent time testing, developing and working through potential issues. Apple is doomed(tm)

LIES
That's too early unless they're sticking to their original plan to making the iPad thicker just to have the higher res screen. This might be a big flop or could be a big hit if they like the iPad thicker but lighter lightness is the trick of all trades to get people to buy. Also by adding the 3 to the end of the iPad will work about 50%. I'm sure they brainwashed us enough with their stuff. They just need to hurry the F up with their pricing and different looks already unless they really think they perfected their designs which I think its 2012 get over yourself and make a new damn design already I think it's time.
I don't want to die and see the same damn design for 5-7 years. Such as the MacPro

Is commenting on this feeding a troll? If it's nit broken, don't fix it. Incredible design doesn't need updating. Before apple, the physical design of a computer wasn't even considered. It's what's on the inside that really matters.

The current imac, mac pro, laptop and ipad designs are stunning. Why do they need changing?

Stupidest posting every to hit Mac Rumors.

Must be a slow news day.... seriously, you claim it will hit mid-March through sometime in April? You mean, like it always does? Yeah, no one saw that coming.

Next rumor will claim the iPad 3 will be faster and have a new display or something insane. :D

And in other news...

<snark>
I am happy to report that Apple's premiere developer event, the WWDC, will be held sometime in June at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The event is expected to sell out in record time.
</snark>

Sigh.

Show me a guarantee that the A5 would never be deemed "good enough" despite occasional hiccups.

I know its not exactly the same scenario, but my 4th generation iPod Touch was good enough for iOS5, sure as heck didn't mean it would perform as well as it did before the upgrade.

DigiTimes reports that Apple's next generation iPad will become available in about 3-4 months. The publication's supply chain sources indicate that the next generation iPad parts are starting to ramp up while the iPad 2 production is starting to decline. Volume production is expected to start in February and reach 9.5-9.8 million units in the first quarter of 2012.

March or April should come as no surprise to regular Apple followers. While Apple first announced the original iPad in Jan 2010, the company didn't start shipping the first units to customers until April. In 2011, the iPad 2 was announced around the same time of year.

The iPad 3 is widely expected to carry a high resolution "Retina" display.

No... Really?!

I am so sick on of these silly predictions...

While a Retina iPad screen will look nice - I, personally, don't find that enough of a reason to upgrade. I'm on an iPad 1 (since launch day) and although it would be nice to have the cameras - that sucker is still a great and speedy device which handles more than I use it for anyway.

So I guess there's really no need or want to upgrade until either it breaks, is no longer supported or there are a bunch of new features which are sexy.

More memory, faster processor and better screen - for me - right now isn't enticing/worth the $.

Well, that's exactly what iPad 3 is going to offer:

- Retina display;
- A6 processor and better GPU;
- 128GB option;
- Better cameras;
- Siri support.

Isn't this enough?

I'm skipping that one. I heard from a trusted Asian blog that heard from their cousin who heard from their mother-in-law (who once rode a train past a Foxconn plant) and who read tea leaves after dinner one night that the iPad5 would be out in time for Christmas that year, and would have a 14 inch screen! :eek: And would be exclusive to Verizon! :eek::eek: And that it would have Thunderbolt and a holographic display! :eek::eek::eek:

But you forgot to list the biggest break through. That is the fact that it will be 100% solar powered in the dark. They have made solar cells so efficient & cut the power needs so much by making the iPad onion skin paper thickness. Plus all of this is with no price increase. Just 96 year prepaid plans are allowed though.

There's a bittersweet aspect to this. For those who, like me, tend to buy a new one each time it comes out, there's a wait time to find the best (read: correctly engineered) cover or case for it. Having spent a few hundred on buying cases for the iPad 2, it's time to begin the hunt again, shortly after the new iPad3 - with different dimensions from the iPad2 - comes out.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm not. It's just a sort of "gotcha" that I'm guessing a few of us are going to be aware of. Nevertheless - bring on the 3!!!

Apple has already filled the gap between the iPhone and the laptop with the iPad. Is there any gap left to fill between the iPad and the iPhone?

With the amount of cash Apple is currently sitting on, one could argue they could afford to have the iPad 3 be a loss leader.

Apple's a business and businesses aren't about giving up any money rather adding to it. Plus it's not Apple's style to loss leader anything especially since they really don't make any money on the app store, media store and definitely not on the OS which they give away for free. And having a loss leader for $1000+ computers doesn't work the same as having one for $10 e books.

See, I'm a bit confused about this whole area because surely Amazon selling the Kindle Fire at almost zero profit and Google giving away Android are two examples of anti-competitive practice?

No practice in and of itself if anti-competitive. It's the reasons and results that make something so.

Amazon is pretty much giving away the Fire but it hasn't caused a sudden overtaking of the market so whatever. Google is giving away Android but again, hasn't ended up taking the market.

Apple on the other hand is like 80% of the tablet market with the next person at 12%. That's a huge margin of strength. So tactics to vastly increase their market share when they are already so huge are anti-competitive.

Apple has already filled the gap between the iPhone and the laptop with the iPad. Is there any gap left to fill between the iPad and the iPhone?

Well sure. THe iPhone is not even 4" and the iPad is 10", there's all sorts of sizes in between.

Which of course doesn't mean that Apple cares, but if they did there's room to play

I dunno about an LTE iPad. I think the iphone will get that first...but who knows.

LTE isn't even widely available yet nationwide. AT&T doesn't even have it do they? If Apple did add it, would it be backwards compatible? Meaning if there wasn't a 4G signal...would it then default to 3G?

This is actually the reason it's coming to iPad first (at least on Verizon). The fallback to 3G is challenging for voice.

Don't mean to sound rude, but how much do you really need the latest iPad if you can comfortably manage 3+ months without one?
This mirrors my thoughts exactly.

In addition, those of us who are hard core enthusiasts have an entirely different value set as compared to Apples target market for the iPad.

I did an informal poll around our company just out of curiosity. Of the 86 people who own iPads 1 or 2, people who are not tech enthusiasts, just four said they'd buy an iPad 3 and their first question was "how much"?

When asked how they liked their current iPad, over 60% said great. The others all acknowledged the attributes they enjoyed but commented on their busy schedules limiting the amount of time they actually used it.

Therefore I have mixed feelings about launch of the iPad 3. Yet I look forward with curiosity to see how it plays out.

Me? I'm going to pass. My iPad 2 is fine for my usage & I'm much more focused on Apples computer line & what that will bring.

I bought the first iPad out of curiosity. Then the second (while keeping the first) to have another one laying around in the living room for the family. Once the newness wore off, they still see usage, but they're no longer as in demand as before. Handy? Yes. Essential? No.

Try having 32gigs of data in the cloud. Its going to cost you a fortune.

Dropbox and iCloud combined is only 7 gb. I am seriously wondering how anyone is able to put 750gb worth of movies and music in the cloud. In fact I can't even backup to iCloud now cause its always full (I don't know why!!) and I didn't even synced any videos or music.

That and 3G is slow, unreliable but most importantly its capped! No matter where you get it from. Its capped. Even if they say its unlimited (which cost a fortune per month) they are going to throttle you if you are a heavy user.

And the next ipad3 can't have a retina display because production of retina displays can't keep up with future sales of the ipad3. It's not there yet. So its most likely going to be CPU, camera, bluetooth, storage upgrade only.

Asus just announced a Tegra 3 tablet for half the price of an iPad 2. This might be bad for the iPad. :O

It's a 7" tablet. There already have been a number of decent 7" tablets for the same or lower price than that Asus, including Kindle Fire and Nook Color and iPad continued to sell.

Except the Asus Tablet has Tegra 3. Which is Quadcore and also has ICS, which is the latest Android version. And an 8 MP Camera, which is a great camera.

That, is a awesome price for those 3 features. Now we wait for the reviews to come in.

That sounds oddly familiar. Didn't Xoom and Playbook have multicore CPU (when iPad was single core) and latest OS versions from their respective ecosystem? Granted, the Asus has the cheap price on its side so it'll sell more, but it'll likely appeal more to the crowd who are looking for something between phone and a tablet, not really the iPad.

I agree those are great features for the price, but the fact still remains that 7" is 7" without a fully developed ecosystem for that display size. It's a very different device from the iPad even though there might be some overlap.

Xoom and playbook had costs a lot.....this tablet has a great price, about half the price of the iPad 2.

Still on iPad 1, ready for 3, need more memory, shame can't upgrade memory on the one I have, would be fine for even longer.

I the end, I personally think Apple will sell these models:

iPad 2

16 GB Wi-Fi: US$299
32 GB Wi-Fi: US$349

iPad 3

32 GB Wi-Fi: US$599
64 GB Wi-Fi: US$699
32 GB Wi-Fi + 3G: US$649
64 GB Wi-Fi + 3G: US$749

Why continue iPad 2 production? The reason is simple: the threat from the Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet, not to mention a new generation of lower-priced tablets running Android 4.0 ("Ice Cream Sandwich"). If Apple had followed the older sales model, the US$499 for an iPad 3 Wi-Fi 16 GB at US$499 would make it too expensive compared to the lower-cost tablets from competitors--especially from Amazon!
